Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, for its low-key, almost documentary approach

Bunman, for Anthony Wong's brilliant performance.

I´ll go with Henry as well, It is a rough little fucker.
Santa Sangre is another favourite, because of the great visuals by Jodorowsky.
The Honeymoon Killers is anotherone. Nice black and white photography, and some really intense killings. Nasty stuff.

I actually prefer Confessions of a Serial Killer to Henry. I haven't seen it in a long time, but it scared me for years. How they would pick up women who had broken down on the freeway. Then the women would get into the car and the handle would be missing from the inside, and they couldn't escape!

When I was in high school, I watched it with 2 girlfriends. A few days or a week after watching it, I was driving in the desert and my car got stuck. Me and my 2 friends were so scared because we had to travel on foot in the middle of the night, and all we could think about was this movie. So we took whatever supplies we had in the car. (A can of hairspray, a shoe, and I don't remember the third thing.) We took off into the desert to try and find the main road. We couldn't stop talking about this movie, how much it freaked us out because it is a true story, and how vulnerable we were. We finally found border patrol and they rescued us, but not before we came across an illegal immigrant hiding by a tree. It was scary. Almost as scary as Confessions of a Serial Killer. I even read a biography of Henry Lee Lucas. He is scary as hell, and so is the movie. I wish it were on dvd.

current fave: BUNDY (or TED BUNDY),the Matthew Bright film. It's definately not afraid to revel in it's subject and really pushes the bad taste buttons. Something not done often nowadays.

the first Jeffrey Dahmer movie-title?-SECRET LIFE OF?-dead on performance by Carl Crews,a -very- 70's look to the film, really creepy atmosphere.

    All the usual subjects,HENRY,etc,

    ZODIAC KILLER-70's, very quirky.

Do "fictional" films count here. CENTERFOLD GIRLS really gets it right with bespectacled Andrew Prine taking one shoe from each victim,Eric Stanze's SCRAPBOOK-intense psychodrama and HITCHHIKE TO HELL.

Henry: Portrait of A Serial Killer is maybe the only serial killer film I've seen, but it's great! Really nasty in its portrayal of Henry Lee Lucas and Otis. Although, I don't think violence which could've been used in a splatter fit in a serial killer movie (Thinking of the first killing). I also think they should've used another soundtrack

Like everyone else, I've got to go with HENRY too. Its just so gritty and raw.

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER is good. A truly disturbing film that still has the power to upset me after my nth viewing.

Edward Dmytryk's THE SNIPER is an ace film, too. A B&W noir serial killer movie; again, I find this one a tad upsetting. Very well-made film, too. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

I like THE ZODIAC KILLER also, although I guess it's not a particularly 'well-made film'. But it's a heck of a lot of fun, and a little twisted.

    And does DIRTY HARRY count?
    Cheers,

HENRY and MANHUNTER tied for me.

TED BUNDY is a really twisted, effective little film, too. Tom Savini did the effects, and also appears in it. If you haven't seen it, check it out. The extended, incredibly uncomfortable execution sequence (including the lead-up to the execution itself, where they are "preparing" Bundy to be electrocuted) is really hard to watch.

Henry gets my vote too. For some reason William Friedkin's film Rampage is buzzing in my mind when I think of serial killer films. I haven't seen this film for many, many years. I think I need to see it again as from what I remember it's a pretty good film, with some disturbing moments. Anyone else remember this film?

From the top of my head i would say that SANTA SANGRE is the coolest. Great visual pleasure in seeing that one.
I have not seen HENRY yet, but seems like a must see.

I forgot about SANTA SANGRE. That film is so many things, it's easy to forget that at it's core, it tells the story of a serial killer. It's one of my all-time favorite films.
