    Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone

Why is it that so few places stock this series on blu ray and when they do it's at astronomical prices? I've never known any TV series on any format, VHS, DVD, blu ray to literally keep it's retail price all year round bar one or two rare online deals. Of course I don't think any TV series has really hit the ground running on the blu ray format so maybe that is why it is rarely seen instores but even online on Ebay and Amazon where you can usually find sellers selling things cheaper than the big retail stores the prices are still high. Surely that can't be good for sales or maybe it does sell well and they can afford to sell at those prices. Another thing that crossed my mind was that maybe the wholesale prices for them is high hence why sellers are selling them at the prices they are.

Either way I think a show like this should be affordable for people and deserves to be stocked instores among other TV blu ray releases.

When this series first came out on BD, each season retailed for $100 but a lot discounted them by about half and those prices have remained steady. Some sales have brought the prices down to around $30-40 per set but that's probably the lowest I've seen. Now, that the complete series on BD has been announced for June 2012 @ $400, I'm sure we'll see that price come down even more per season.

Amazon had a deal on Jan 1st where they sold all 5 seasons on blu as a bundle for $152.99
In my years of DVD shopping, that had to be the best deal I've ever got.

It's still a lot of money though. Maybe it's just me being in the UK and the way things are here but i've never seen any TV show on blu ray sell for these kinds of prices. I remember a store last month selling seasons of Lost on bluray for 8 which is less than $20. I just don't know how retailers can justify those prices or even people. Do you really think paying $152.99 was worth it? If you do then great but i think for the price they sell at, coupled with the fact that it's an old TV show that most people wont even be aware is for sale since stores now only really stock the front level stuff, the recently released and the fact that it is all bundled into a standard case, no fancy packaging or anything means the only people that are going to buy are the people that know it's out and know where to get it. A very niche audience.

I suppose I can't complain about future sales of seasons since there only was 5 seasons and they are all out there now but they could make these releases more accessible and maybe lower the price a bit. If it was a film it would be classed as a catalogue title, they're asking a lot from people.

I think it's just a case of looking around for deals, maybe keeping an eye on prices using a comparison site like http://www.find-dvd.co.uk. I picked up season 1 on blu for 15 back in February in a Play.com sale, so there's a good chance that the others may drop to that sort of price too.

I bought my S1 set at the same price around Christmas time, Gavin. I've seen the other series drop close to 18 or thereabouts, so hopefully they'll get to 15 or so sometime before the summer.

That site does not list the blu ray releases. I will definately keep an eye out for them. Checking and searching www.hotukdeals.com i see that just over a month ago the first season was on sale various places for just over 15. I've got a feeling anymore pricedrops will be reported there. I haven't recieved series 1 yet, hopefully the postman will bring it tomorrow.

If you click the drop down menu by search you can change it to Blu-ray , but I'm guessing hotukdeals is pretty much a similar site anyways.

I was actually quite surprised how recently the boxsets were issued over here Paul, season 5 only came out in Feb, the rest the latter end of last year, so hopefully yeah they will start turning up in sales in a few months.

I got it then too. Best blu ray purchase I've made yet. The episodes look brilliant and the extras are just as good.

Seasons 1 - 4 are down to 19 on Play's Deal Of The Day but there's only 13 hours to go...

so, with season 2, 6 episodes had been shot in video format...nowadays, this must seem regrettable.

re series 5 - is "Owl Creek Bridge" subtitled and remastered?

I'm amazed they survive! One of my duties at work involves examining the masters we receive for broadcast of classic era TV shows. When I got one of these episodes, I was really taken aback at first, and it took me a while to finally realize it was just very-early-generation video. Certainly has an jarring effect, which I presume was intentional!

From my memory, the version broadcast by CBS had no dialogue, and one song that was sung in English, so there would be no need for subtitles.
