    Seraphim Falls (2006)

Just finished watching this western starring Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson ( both were awesome btw ) and i couldnt stop thinking about how the director must've seen LOTS of SW when he filmed this. Here are some similarities i picked up. Snowy locations ( The Great Silence ), Revenge plot ( most of SWs ), desert scene ( TGTBATU ), bizzare surrealism ( think Django Kill ), SW-style violence ( Keoma )... etc... its also has this one unique scene involving a horse that i havent seen anything like it before.
Another plus is that there wasnt any CGI from what i can tell and the cinematography was great.

Anyways, its was an excellent movie and recommended to SW and Westerns-in-general fans.

I caught it on Netflix streaming a few months back and loved it. At one point I started getting frustrated that the reason for the hostilities hadn’t been revealed but it ended up being well worth the wait.

Talal, Yeah great flick. The ending left me a little disappointed the first time I saw it, but
otherwise it was a nice solid western. I thought it drew from Jeremiah Johnson and The Wild Rovers.

In the last several years three westerns really stood out to me as excellent

Appaloosa, directed by and starring Ed Harris - see this one!

Yeah me too, but then i thought that it was pure spaghetti western style to leave the "backstory" till the end so i gave it a chance. Turned out that the flashback scene is my least favourite in the whole movie.

Steve, dont worry, i'm a huge western buff so i've seen those other 2 you mentioned the year they were released. Appaloosa in particular is pretty good, not the usual western stuff so it was a breath of fresh air. Btw, it's good that you didnt mention the 3:10 to Yuma remake cause i fucking hate that one for a lot of reasons, being a remake is not one though cause i didnt care much for the original.

Agreed on all counts, Steve. I didn't dig PROPOSITION quite as much as APPALOOSA and SERAPHIM FALLS, but all are recommended. LONELY ARE THE BRAVE and FIRST BLOOD are others with some similar elements, at least in terms of rugged chase and action sequences through rough terrain.
