It's at least an annual event. It'll probably go down again in July since that seems to be consistently the worst month. If the webhost is useless and provides such poor support, why not move to a competent service?

I thought that was why we did the big fundraiser years ago?

The one that Ian paid all the shipping costs for? I remember that one.

Did anyone else have trouble reading posts in forum threads yesterday? You could get on AV Maniacs' website, forum and forum folders, but when you clicked on a forum thread title it went to a white screen with an Error 404 message onscreen.

Yes, the continuing technical problems here have really become tiresome. Is there nothing that can be done?

I get PMs over this issue, and at the risk of sounding like a prick - there's nothing I can do about it. This is a tech issue, and that particular ball of wax is firmly in Edwin's hands these days. He's been made aware of the issues, but I don't know how much time he has to devote to the site these days....

Think someone forgot to put a penny in the meter over the past couple of days. Glad the forum is back up and running.

Why does this happen so regularly? Is it time to say goodbye to AVM and shut it down? Seems like it's become a lot of trouble keeping it functioning.

This is the only site that i frequent where this happens regularly and it's really frustrating. Started posting on another site and imdb cause of this.

I know there's a lot of grumbling about how the site has gone to hell, but really I don't think that's the case - at least when it's up and running! Problem is, we're dealing with a tech issue and ever since Ian's departure, there really isn't anybody with the knowhow to deal with it. I've asked Edwin to try and get somebody on board who can better handle these issues, but i've no idea if it will do any good. I wouldn't go getting all pessimistic that the site is done for, however - like I said, when it's up and running, i still think we have a fine crew of posters and plenty of good conversation.

As I wrote somewhere else the problem is the lack of power the moderators have since the previous ones left. It isn't normal or good for the atmosphere that people can say non-sense and harass other member with no consequences except a little slap on the hand. Sure we can block them, what I do, but nothing prevent the harassment (as you have seen last year with I forgot who who didn't stop harassing me untill he was banned after months of this).

You do your works correctly (even if I think the moderators aren't present enough to prevent the problems before they get out of hands) but you need to get the tools needed to do it.

I don't disagree with you there, Jimmy, and it puts us in a thankless position on the whole. I don't propose to get into details, but real world problems took me away from here for a period of time - things of far greater import than a message board became prominent in my day to day existence, so that had to be dealt with. I'm doing what I can, but I may well be the only who has the ability to do much beyond just issuing warnings - and even my powers are severely limited. Just rest assured that the mods DO care, and if problems arise it's best to contact all three of us in the hopes of catching one or the other sooner than later.

    Well said and thanks.

I am also a big fan of contributing something when you think the site needs a shot here and there rather than bitching about it.

I do miss the birthdays and how easy it was for folks to put up a picture in a thread.
Oh and the reviews are in the News section. It's be nice if we at least had a sign attached the the review tab that said the reviews are now located in News. Unless we can get them back in the review tab. I actually found this place by searching for a dvd review and stumbled onto the forum.

Nice to be back. And thanks again for those that do the doing (and that includes all the cool chat.)

I'm told that what happened was the database exceeded its maximum allotment - so some stuff had to be pruned... I guess it's something of a work in progress, but certainly we value and appreciate any and all constructive feedback. It's true, some people just like to complain and have nothing to contribute as far as constructive feedback and criticism, but on the whole I think we have a fine group here - and it's their dedication to the site that keeps it afloat, glitches and all.

Hopefully the 'pruning' process doesn't involve getting rid of older posts - it's a great archive we have here...
