I had 2 wisdom teeth removed at the same time the last year (I hadn't been to the dentist for years). The dentist asked me why I'd neglected my teeth for so long, and I replied with honesty that I was shit scared of the dentist. She laughed and told me that it's understandable that I hadn't been going to the dentist as much as I should when I was in the UK, 'cause the UK's dentists are shit. In France, they are much better, they take care of you (quickly and efficiently (multiple sessions are kept to a minimum)) and you don't feel pain. In my experience, this is true. Anyway, I have a nice smile now, and I no longer have a fear of the dentist (umm...maybe it has something to do with the fact that my dentist is highly competent, young and has big breasts and I like it when she cradles my head between them)
When I used to have tooth-aches, I'd take pain killers and use the clove oil. (Yup it's disgusting). Also, I found that lying down to sleep makes the pain worse. When I had extreme tooth aches, I had less pain when I slept sitting up in a arm-chair. Oh yeah, you made a good point with the space cakes BTW, marijuana calms the pain, but smoke destroys the teeth and gums, so cookies is the way to go.
Good luck for the week end and I hope you get it painlessly fixed once and for all on Monday.
