I think TV library music is just way cool and never tire of this nerdy fascination. Hawkshaw's done practically every style of music, composing the themes for DAVE ALLEN AT LARGE and ARTHUR C. CLARKE'S MYSTERIOUS WORLD for instance, music many still remember. Some less known examples here.

Re: Another What Are You Listening To Now?

Liking Dutch guitarist Jan Akkerman for many years and more recently got into his old band Focus, one of the coolest yet it seems most underrated of all 1970s prog acts. Don't know why they're not higher on most prog rock lists, odd anyway if it's to do with a largely instrumental repertoire only using vocals rather sparsely. Most people will have heard their biggest hit "Hocus Pocus" with the crazy yodeling parts, but the outfit's so much more than a poor man's Jethro Tull or something (the song "House of the King" is often mistaken for Tull.) The solo work of flutist/keyboarder Thijs van Leer is well worth checking out also, if into softer classical music and mainly for flute often accompanied by the silky voice of one Letty DeJong. Focus delivered some downright beautiful music.

Re: Another What Are You Listening To Now?

Canned Heat - Live at Topanga Corral (aka Kaleidoscope)
Man, they had two really great guitar players at the start

    Mike Bloomfield binge
    Electric Flag
    Butterfield Live at Fillmore West
Two Jews - with Barry Goldberg (I swear that's the name of the album)
Live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West - Nick Gravenites
Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper
and reading, If You Love These Blues - Oral History a bunch of interviews

The first thing I ever really liked by Bloomfield was his spoken
introduction to Live Adventures, "Me and Alan...."
He could play in so many different styles and once you hear
a bunch of him there's some humor in there, too along with the
passion and incredible style. I have also come to appreciate the
way Gravenites sings. Bloomfield had so much going on, such a
shame that he kinda faded away and turned his back on
the rest of the world those last few years. I dug that
he preferred the smaller, purer gigs (much like Garcia) but
still... Great book, too. Nice history of that early to mid sixties
Chicago scene. Bloomers, here's to ya!
