The top image I link is from the Blue from Arrow. The bottom one is a pic from the Grindhouse release.

Also, as a horror movie, it just seems odd that you would want everything so well lit like it's outside on a sunny day. Wasn't this scene in a room of the hotel that was normally not with access, so you figure it'd be closed off, dark, light bulbs burnt out, and dirty? It has been years since I've watched this one. I sure as heck wouldn't be scared walking through a room like in the BD cap whereas I might feel someone might sneak up on me in the other.
The film is not lit realistically - as such you have scenes where one would expect things to be very dark in a literal sense, but it's not lit that way. Fulci once remarked with distaste about Fincher's Seven - about how it was so dark, you couldn't even see anything... So ultimately this logic isn't the best way to assess what the original intent really was - then again, just going by a frame grab isn't the best way, either.

Gents I think you should all take a deep breath, watch a porno or something, because besides the screeners that were leaked, NO ONE has recieved an official copy yet! I am still waiting for my personal per-order - my first pre-order EVER mind you! - and if it's shit you will hear from the Wrath of Aaron G..but until then, wot me worry?

People love to get worked up, though... it keeps the blood flowing. Me, I'm thinking it's a top notch release; those who think it's going to look like crap might as well hold on to their murky Grindhouse or Anchor Bay editions and leave the BD to others.

I'm not inclined to trust Aussies since I watched BloodMoon, god what a piece of shit. Foster's is not very good too.

Although Alex just threw out a cultural slur...I'm still going to have to side with him on this whole matter. I was lucky enough to see The Beyond projected, from 35mm film, back in the glorious days of midnight movies here (albeit, in its BBFC cut variant as most of Australia's film prints used to come from Britain before we foolishly Americanised ourselves), and I distinctly remember the film being "dark and murky"...very close in fact to the Palace VHS release we had here, and fairly consistent with the AB and Grindhouse DVDs.

No way on God's green earth was it as bright, colourful and overblown of contrast as the screenshots we've seen from the Arrow BD so far. Alex's captures and experimental tooling is way closer to what the film looked like in a cinema.

As was my "cultural slur" comment...a joke, that is!

Blood Moon was one of the biggest pieces of shit we've ever made (though Mr. G will tell you it was our involvement in the creation of the Saw franchise that did it for real), but at least it came with a nice bonus on its original theatrical release: a Fright Break! They actually had one positioned near the end of the film and, if you didn't want to go on, you go to the box office and they gave you your money back! Suffice to say, a record number of Aussie cinemagoers took up the offer...after enduring the first two acts of utter crap. Roadshow really bombed with that promotional tool....

Better get back on topic, or else someone might butt in and tell us we're ruining their thread (as has started becoming common practice here from the "entitled" of late).

Australian cinema sucks. I have no problem with Australians, however. Just clarifying.

Did you see the print that Grindhouse put into theatres... if so, that would go a long way towards explaining THAT.

As for everything else, all I can say is, the Arrow looks good to me. I'm glad to have it in my collection, and I will be watching that particular edition instead of my Anchor Bay DVD in the future. That's just me - the rest of y'all can do what ya like!

Ah, but to do so gives the game away... or does it?
