Another new cult/exploitation label from CAV: Intervision Picture Corporation

Looks like it shall be a good 2011 with the announcement of yet another cult label. Here's the press release I got just a few minutes ago:

INTERVISION PICTURE CORPORATION TO OPEN FOR BUSINESS IN JANUARY

Legendary Indie Shocker 'The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer', First New Jess Franco Film In Years Slated As Maiden Releases

San Francisco, CA/Bangkok, Thailand – November 15, 2010 – The newly created Intervision Picture Corporation, featuring several longtime veterans of the home video scene, today announced it was rolling out its aggressive schedule of Cult and Exploitation releases starting this January.

Bangkok-based Intervision Picture Corp. has just inked a deal with distribution/manufacturing mainstay CAV to handle solicitation and physical distribution.

First releases are both helmed by recent Goya Award Winner Jess Franco. The Sinister Eyes of Dr. Orloff, a long-thought-lost classic from 1971, was finally unearthed in a Budapest vault following an exhaustive international search. Orloff will be paired with Paula-Paula, the most acclaimed Jess Franco film in over two decades.

Intervision Picture Corporation has also just announced the acquisition of the seminal serial killer study The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer, along with two of the greatest Ozploitation entries of the 1970s - Australia After Dark and The ABCs of Love and Sex.

The deal was negotiated by Larry Gold Sr., Founder and CEO on behalf of Intervision Picture Corporation, and Jay Douglas, Vice President of Product Development on behalf of CAV.

CAV’s Douglas said, “Larry Gold is one of the few true legends of the video industry and we are thrilled to bring his latest and greatest brand to the CAV stable.”

Intervision Picture Corporation's Gold added, “When I decided I was getting the band back together and putting out a new line, Jay was the first person I called. CAV and Intervision both are in the midst of new, exciting ventures, and I look forward to the partnership."

Gold, an early leader in the world of VHS distribution, has an impressive resume stretching back to the early 1960s, when he founded the London-based Solid Gold Films Ltd. Long thought retired to his estate in Southeast Asia, Gold cited "the need to get quality pictures back on the shelves" as his chief reason for getting back into distribution.

"I've still got the rights to over 850 films across all formats - and I intend to exercise them in a manner that will result in classy, special-features-laden releases crafted for the discriminating picturegoer. Film distribution has gotten a bit off its bearings as of late, and we at Intervision Picture Corporation intend to bring back a little of the way things used to be."

Nice to see a new company have a site ready to go before releases start hitting the market. Could be a good sign

Cool news. I really like their cover designs/logo with the border:

Hopefully we get some nice looking transfers from this company...Am I the only one who seems leery of the company being based in Thailand?

PAULA PAULA has been on dvd for a while now, I bought it from the official site last year. However the other release looks interesting, Helmut Berger as Dr. Orloff.

Give me Fulci, Bava, and Argento over Antonioni, Fellini, Rossellini.

With more Franco and more Ozploitation on DVD, I'm hoping for the best, but I need to see reviews first. With the first releases less than 2 months away, I see no specs, no region, and no availbility of pre-orders mentioned.

Awesome! That's the 3rd new cult label announced in the last month (One 7 Movies, Midnight Legacy & Intervision Picture Corporation). Wow!

Thanks Brian for your post. I didn't know about One 7 Movies before reading your reply and after a fast check at Amazon I saw they will release Sins of Madame Bovary in january. Of course my pre-order is done, too bad Alien From the Deep is listed as full screen I would have order it too.

Although I could be wrong, I have my doubts that Mark Hartley would lend his services to a bootleg label.

Edit: Hold that thought. Having had a read of the whole Intervision site, there's just too many conflicting sets of "facts", page after page, that I already have my doubts on this one. I'm going to reserve judgement on this label until something more concrete, and less "messy", presents itself. Btw, Intervision used to be a video label in the UK way back when. Jack probably remembers them well...

It's funny though, Midnight Legacy is from an ex-bootlegger, this new label, Intervision has questionable legitimacy (from the Jess Franco thread: http://fantaterrorhorrorfromspain.blogspot.com/ ), and One 7 Movies was started by one of the MYA folks.....

    Strange... very strange.

you may want to wait for reviews on that DVD you ordered
