One Seven Movies: New Euro Cult Label?

Just got an email from CAV announcing some January releases from a seemingly new company: One Seven Movies (or One 7 Movies, whatever). Figured you guys would be interested. I'm actually wondering if this is a branch of MYA attempting to save some face on their quality reputation, if only for the fact that the two films that have both English and Italian language options don't have subs for the Italian track; also, only one film is anamorphic, one is full frame and the other is 1.66:1 letterboxed. But none of these titles are from the massive list on Mirek's blog, so that's one of the things that leaves the door open. Hmmm...

    Here's another title they're releasing.

Their banner really resembles MYA to my eyes, so you're not alone.

I suspect you're right... but those are some eye-catching titles!

The chick on the Chinese Kamasutra cover has a tramp stamp... too funny.

Pretty much seals the deal that they're MYA related!

They have one more title coming in December that sounds pretty interesting:

I sincerely hope they are not like MYA as I would probably buy all those titles except Alien From The Deep if they were released by a reputable company.

Aliens from the Deep is most likely a port from the English friendly PAL release. The cover is practically identical. I agree it's gotta be Mya. Same design house did those ads, obviously.

I guess the MYA titles were not selling like they used too, time to change it up and fool some other people with crappy trasfers.

Give me Fulci, Bava, and Argento over Antonioni, Fellini, Rossellini.

Hmmm, they do look Mya, don't they?

"Scandalous Gilda" is a TERRIBLE movie, I thought. I've never heard of "Chinese Kamasutra". "Alens of the Deep, ehhh.

The "Madame Bovary" movie looks intriguing. I have 32 Edwige Fenech movies as it is, including most of her dumbass sex comedies. (I think I need to seek out an appropriate 12-step group). I don't have that one though. Maybe if they're not as EXPENSIVE as Mya, at least. . .

Peopled wised up to MYA as a bootleg outfit with sub-par quality prints and people stopped buying their discs - The only logical next step for them would be to kill MYA and come back as another company. This might also be a ploy to cover up the fact that they never owned the rights to the films they released (I suspect this is more likely)

Re: One Seven Movies: New Euro Cult Label?

I don't always mind bootlegs if something is not available legitimately and they charge bootleg PRICES (i.e. not more than $10). My main gripe with Mya is that they try to charge $20 for their "bootlegs" (perhaps I shouldn't use quotes there?)

BCI/Brentwood/Mill Creek or whatever the hell they're calling themselves this week sell gray-market, public domain movies that they usually don't have the rights too, more often than not with lousy transfers. But they charge about $12 for a collection of eight movies, which might be worth it if you actually WANT at least two of the movies in the collection. If Mya did that, I'd have no gripe with them.

I also once bought, on Amazon.com no less, a "re-mastered DVD" of "Emanuelle in Soho" that had obviously been "re-mastered" from an old VHS tape with severe tracking problems. I would be mad at a bootlegger if he sold me something that looked that bad. At least I only paid $2 for it though. Mya isn't the only shady, crappy DVD company out there by a longshot , but they are by far the most expensive.

Looks like they are charging even more for their stuff than "MYA" did. The SRP for each is $29.99. INSANE.

Never let it be said that this 'new' company aren't optimists. You could buy the original 'rare' vhs tapes they use as their source for that kind of cash on eBay. Don't think this company will last long.

My thoughts on One 7's release of Scandalous Gilda:
