Seems like he's got plenty on his plate to say the least.

This is great! I could actually imagine this film turning out really good. A return to his roots.

I feel so strongly about Cronenberg's work that he could direct LEGALLY BLONDE 3 and I'd be there first day it opened.....

These new projects sound great. Can't wait.

I'm still on the fence about whether I relly like Jonathan Lethem or he's boring and pretentious. I mean I've read 3 of his books and they were alright but a bit crypticc.

Interesting that Cronenberg and (to a lesser extent) Craven can still get wide theatrical releases for films with A-list casts while Carpenter, Romero, Hooper, Coscarelli and the rest have experienced such trouble getting suitable projects greenlit over the last decade. How'd we get here?

Well, Cronenberg makes good deals and his recent films have been successes (critically and money wise in the box office/home video department). Wes through the mid-nineties had a contract with the Weinstein's, so that kept him a float with the films he's done there considering most of them have been successes. I assume he knows other producers who have theater pull, so he doesn't have much trouble getting them in since they're not total flops.

Carpenter I think just took the deal on The Ward because it sounded good. Not having a big budget film for a big studio gave him free reign without producers getting in his hair. He's also pretty much fed up with the studio system so that probably has something to do with it.

Romero is pretty much in the same boat here, I think he takes the lighter deals because he doesn't want to have to deal with the big studios much anymore.
