    Jess Franco 101

I'm looking for recommendations again here. What would you guys consider to be the "creme de la creme" of Franco flicks...there are SO MANY, and (inevitably) a lot of crap. So far I have:

    The Diabolical Dr. Z
    The Awful Dr. Orlof
    Faceless
Ilsa: The Wicked Warden (in the box set)

..maybe a few others I can't think of. How are the ones BU did recently?

I HIGHLY recommend JUSTINE. my favorite of all Franco's that I've seen. the performances by Kinski and Palance are great as usual, and the entire movie is pretty over the top and entertaining.

VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD is pretty watchable.

    Some other must-buy Franco films:

99 WOMEN - one of (if not the) first WIP flicks that out classes as well as out erotics most others. Rosalba!!!!

VENUS IN FURS - Trippy, strange, surreal, excellent!

VAMYPROS LESBOS - Soledad Miranda and Ewa Stroemberg in a gorgeous and highly sensual film!

THE GIRL FROM RIO - Kinda James Bond-esque comic type action flick with a nice bit of eroticism thrown in.

Once again I'll recommend EUGENIE...THE STORY OF HER JOURNEY INTO PERVERSION on BU. BU's release of VENUS IN FURS is also good. I've heard from Troy, the resident Franco expert, that EUGENIE DE SADE is also good but I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, it isn't available in R1.

Wild East issued Eugenie De Sade on R1, but it may be out of print. The Oracle DVD from England is R0, and I'd say it's worth the investment.

FEMALE VAMPIRE. Actually, that made me more of a Lina Romay fan than anything else.

THE RITES OF FRANKENSTIEN is my personal fave at the moment.
I'll second votes for EUGENIE ..., VENUS IN FURS, AWFUL DR ORLOFF, DIABOLICAL DOCTOR Z and FEMALE VAMPIRE.
I also very much enjoyed Severin Films recent MACUMBA SEXUAL DVD.

A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD -- Inventive, stylish, surreal, original. Surpasses it's budget with a great performance from all the regulars. Strong output from Franco. One of my most rewatched.

I wish Jess' cameos were longer, it's fun to watch him. (as the cop, or the notary, or the manservant, etc)

    Re: Jess Franco 101

I've seen close to thirty Franco films. Here's my top five.

    Vampyros Lesbos
    Attack of the Robots
    The Awful Dr. Orloff
    Nightmares Come at Night
    Dr. Orloff's Monster

I'm not one to recommend considering I'm not much of a fan of VENUS IN FURS or VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD and I absolutely hated THE FEMALE VAMPIRE. Plus I believe one of the films in my top five isn't very well liked, so I'm all over the map.
    i don't know butchie instead.

My least favorite is probably GIRL FROM RIO. Just couldn't get into it. Poor Sanders wasn't looking very well, and the helicopter climax was dreadful. My least watched.

I've been meaning to get Killer Barbies. Is it any good? Keep in mind I found Mari-Kookie more then watchable.
