    Euro-Cult War Movies

So I just watched Enzo G. Castellari's INGLORIOUS BASTARDS and I enjoyed it... I was wondering if there were other great films in this genre?

Lenzi's Battle Force is out on nice Scandinavian widescreen-DVD.

The Mill Creek Combat Classics set (50 movie set) has several Eurowar films on it, including a surprisingly nice letterboxed copy of Lenzi's excellent DESERT COMMANDOS. Others on the set include: HELL IN NORMANDY, BATTLE OF EL ALAMEIN and WAR DEVILS. I've always liked BATTLE OF EL ALAMEIN, would love to see a nice print. HELL IN NORMANDY is quite good too, with spaghetti western regular Peter Lee Lawrence.

I hope Wild East will release some more of these, both SALT IN THE WOUND and CHURCHILL'S LEOPARDS were pretty good.
Let's finish it the way we started it -- on the level.

If you like Inglorious Basterds then I also recommend Enzo's early "euro war" film Eagles Over London. Not as goofy or fan as Bastards but entertaining none-the-less. Eagles over London is available on R1 DVD from Severin Entertainment.

Yup, IMO the war films are the one genre in which Lenzi did not excel.

I know someone else here liked his BATTLE FORCE, but I found it boring both times I gave it a view.

^ Ian, I agree with you. I've found it ironic that the man has referred to his WW2 films in interviews as his best work.

Castellari would be my director on the Euro-War scene. Severin did a great job with EAGLES OVER LONDON.

Alfonso Brescia didn't specialize in war stuff but HELL IN NORMANDY was very, very good.

    Re: Euro-Cult War Movies

I have just finished a week of Macaroni Combat film reviews:

    Five For Hell
Eagles Over London - Blu-ray review.
    Desert Commandos
    Hell in Normandy

I have also previously reviewed Churchill's Leopards, Salt in the Wound and the ever enjoyable Inglorious Bastards

Have any others come out on DVD recently, possibly even in good condition prints?

I love Battle Force. I saw it in a cut version on UKTV, but nevertheless I loved the big stars. Is that the most comp[lete version?
