Like Ray Milland, he appeared in a lot of B movies late in his career.

With Fighting Mad and Moving Violation coming, it would be great to get 1974's 'nam vets gone crazy Open Season (Fonda, John Phillip Law, Richard Lynch, William Holden). Any chance Shout! could get the rights for this? Doesn't look like it's been released on DVD (at least not in the US).

Not bloody likely. People in the know have told me that the foreign rightsholder for OPEN SEASON has turned down five figure offers to buy it, not because the offers are too low but because they're just plain not interested and don't need the money. Much like the Chase family, they're too rich to care and too bored to bother.

According to the IMDB, Columbia Pictures showed it theatrically in the US so maybe they hold US rights, and if that's the case, it could turn up in Sony's Columbia Classics series of MOD. The IMDB lists Warner Bros. as the European distributor. This info. could be old and the rights could have reverted back to the Spanish producers.

I believe it's been scheduled for July. I can't wait to get that one too.

Columbia's rights expired years ago, along with Warner's overseas rights. It's all in one man's hands, and he's got "better things to do."

OPEN SEASON sounds like it would make a helluva double feature with WELCOME HOME, SOLDER BOYS.

Guess I'll just have to be happy with my OPEN SEASON bootleg then. It's a pity, because I would have happily done an upgrade.

Actually it was so cropped down into faux-widescreen, the "PD" releases were a better choice to watch!

It is an enjoyable if not particularly good film, very much akin to a mid-1970s Hammer effort (at least it is better than 'Horror of Frankenstein' (1970)) - I reviewed a PD release of the American cut - Lady Frankenstein. The American release is missing about 15 minutes of, mostly dialogue based footage, which gives it a rather jumpy appearance and makes the storyline a little hard to follow in places. A release of the full original version would be preferable, but a good looking print for the US cut would be enough to make me double-dip.

Interesting to hear about the American cut missing that much footage. Since this would be my first time seeing the flick, I'd prefer the most complete cut possible but if the US cut is the one chosen for the release, I won't lose too much sleep on it based on what you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up on this, Tim!

Thanks for the info. That sucks though.

Shame about OPEN SEASON, it really is a very well done ( and brutal ) exploitation flick with some killer performances. A pox on those fortunate enough to be that rich and that bored who posess film rights and elements.

Thrilled that LADY FRANKENSTEIN is coming. If SHOUT could release the full length version, it would merit a SE. Maybe NIGHT OF THE COBRA WOMAN has a shot as well?

Surely no-one could be that rich and lazy. If they don't want to make any money off the rights, just hire a lawyer to organise the sale of all the rights to a DVD company and the money from the sale would cover the lawyer's fees.

What a shame that films will get to go unseen because of people like that.

Well I finally broke down and picked up the only title from the Corman Cult Classics series that I didn't own: Suburbia. Until more titles become available, my collection is complete....
