Looking forward to DEATHSTALKER 2, the most fun of the series. Was in touch with the screenwriter once upon a time (non-film related), any plans for his participation?
I don't think I spoiled anything about GROTESQUE besides mentioning the missing footage in the Media VHS release and

    CAREFUL SPOILERS!!!!!

most of the sympathetic cast being killed in the middle of the film

    END SPOILERS!!!

I could have explained how the Media tape actually ended.

MONSIGNOR is one of the great guilty pleasure films of the '80s. This is surely one of the "turkeys" that the late Christopher Reeve lamented "live on on home video." Reeve is far out of his element as a working class Irish priest from Brooklyn (!) who works his way up the ladder of the post-WWII Vatican and becomes involved with the Mafia. My buddy Brian (a member on this forum) and I cracked up many times when watching this on VHS (one of those big box numbers from CBS/FOX) many years ago, no more so than when Reeve is forced to kiss the ring of Robert Prosky's higher-ranking character. Frank Perry, who directed some truly fine films like THE SWIMMER, LAST SUMMER, PLAY IT AS IT LAYS, DIARY OF A MAD HOUSEWIFE, and DAVID AND LISA, directed this after "triumphing" with the camp classic MOMMIE DEAREST. John Williams provides a customarily sumptuous score that reminds me of his work on THE FURY.

    Okay, spoiler (singular)

That's why I rarely read reviews before seeing films. Am all about the surprises.

Just noticed someone else has memories of catching GROTESQUE on USA:

Wouldn't be surprised in the least that it's terrible, stoked nonetheless!

Re: WOW! Shout Factory to release Roger Corman's Library!!!

Personally, I've never seen too may "terrible" movies, mainly because I can't be bothered to sit through a film that isn't competently made. I love many of what people call "cheesy" movies from the 80's because they're fun. A movie like Boardinghouse is a good example of a terrible movie. Sitting through a movie like that takes guts - there's nothing in that movie that's worth sitting down to watch, especially the "cinematography" which is headache inducing. To me, if a movie LOOKS like a movie, not a video game or someone's camcorder footage, if it's technically well made, it's good enough for me. Things like bad dialogue, cheap sets or subpar acting don't really bother me that much, as long as the movie is FUN. I think Horror films that are slow-paced and brooding are some of the best ones around. So, all I wanna know is, is Grotesque at least competently made and fun?

BTW the Steve Carver's commentary is very interesting, always nice to hear someone talking about a film and not about what happen in the film.
So for those that have seen the British CAPONE 16x9 DVD as well as older, unmatted tv broadcasts of CAPONE, does the new Shout Factory! DVD reveal as much of Susan Blakely as the unmatted tv broadcast copies or is the transfer the same as the UK DVD, which crops some of the nudity? I will likely pick it up anyway, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. In a similar situation, when Anchor Bay released MISCHIEF several years ago, there was speculation (perhaps an internet "urban legend"?) that the telecine operator cheated a bit to ensure that the full-frontal shot of Kelly Preston was preserved.

I agree with you Luis! I still don't know how my buddy, my girlfriend, and I sat through Boardinghouse!!! Definitely one of the worst of the worst and a true turkey if there ever was one!

You have no idea how long I've waited to see a non-cheap release of Lady Frankenstein!!!! Ben you make my day with this, even if halloween isn't really soon.

More important : Thanks Cliff for all your hard works!

    Edit:

Just saw at imdb that Velvet Vampire is a Stephanie Rothman's film and since I've appreciated all her other films I have seen the chance are high I will like this one too!

Wow, didn't see that coming. This is great news. Nice one Cliff.

We can ditch our grey market composite versions before the end of the year.
And titties! You likes big titties, don't ya?
Oh, you know I loves big titties.

I wish Lady Frankenstein was sold separately, but at least this print will surpass anything else on the market at the moment

I've never seen Lady Frankenstein but it sounds interesting and the reception on the boards for it heightens my curiosity even more. I'm looking forward to this collection even more now! Thanks a lot, Cliff!

THE VELVET VAMPIRE is the highlight of that box set, for me.

George Reis of DVD-Drive-In released a version of LADY FRANKENTEIN, but even that DVD was far from perfect.

Question Cliff: will the print of "Lady Frankenstein" be the longer European International version or just the standard American release?

No. It is unredeemably horrid. Judge for yourself though, here's a clip:

Hard to believe Joseph Cotton from Citizen Kane, Shadow of a Doubt, the Third Man & other classics was in Lady Frankenstein....
