The uber official MONDO MACABRO thread

It's time we got ourselves a Mondo Macabro thread and THIS my friends has just been posted on the MM blog:

    Franco 70 - Volumes 1-3 - coming 2010!

A while back we said we'd be announcing a set of releases from one of the legends of Eurocult... and any sort of cult for that matter... at last, and after literally years of negotiating, we can finally let the cat out of the bag!

Franco 70 will see the first ever DVD releases of some of the most important unreleased (up til now) films from the career of Jesus Franco. The first in what will hopefully be a long line of releases will be Lorna the Exorcist, Sinner (The Intimate Diary of a Nymphomaniac), and my personal fave; The Perverse Countess. All three were produced by Robert De Nesle’s Comptoir Français du Film Production and will be remastered over the coming months in glorious HD for the first time ever.

We're hoping the first volume will hit the virtual shelving around May 2010 ..... we'll confirm soon.... in the meantime here's a couple of pics to get you in the mood!
Ta to Jared for drawing my attention to this.

Edit: Oops, forgot to link to their blog, there ya go:

Yes, we needed this. Thanks Jack! Don't forget, in addition to Franco70, MM have the Jean Louis Van Belle collection coming in March with SADIST WITH RED TEETH and FORBIDDEN PARIS. They also claim that the long promised SNAKE SISTERS is still in the pipeline so perhaps that will make its bow this upcoming year as well. Who knows what else, my favorite DVD label surprises me at every turn ...

Yeah I saw that, thanks. However, as Jared menntioned this isn't just about their Franco movies but their releases in general and, uh, I guess people might not be too impressed if I began writing about MM's Barry Prima flicks in the Franco thread, haha.

I sure hope so even if it did become a mailorder release only (as Pete Tombs mentioned it might be over at Cinehound).

I've been re-reading my Mondo Macabro book. I bought the hardback when it first came out, and now reexamining it after all these years I know what a lot more of the films are now. Like at least 40% of them.

Thank you Jack for opening a MM thread (something I always wanted to do, but never had the guts for ahahah)!

MONDO MACABRO is and will always be my favourite DVD company!

Ok, so far (and if I may summarize you guys), here are what we should expect from MM, in 2010 (will be updating this list every now and then, whenever there will be a new title announced):

    1) THE JEAN LOUIS VAN BELLE COLLECTION: SADIST WITH RED TEETH and FORBIDDEN PARIS (coming in March)

    2) FRANCO 70- Volumes 1-3 (no street dates, yet)

    3) SNAKE SISTERS (possibly as mailorder only)

    Mmmmh woah woah woah!
    Can't wait!

Glad to see the new thread and great news about the Franco set. MM had a great year with their Nikkatsu releases. Maybe they can sneak in another Turkish double feature in 2010?

Haha, I'm just listening to The Leather Nun (Swedish garagerock from 20 yrs ago) singing "I left my heart on desolation avenue". I guess you left your guts on that thar avenue, LOL.

Well, at least not doing the band thing gives you more free time to watch MM flicks.

That would be awesome! Insidentally, yesterday I went thru a box of tapes a friend of mine gave me on Sunday and to my utmost big surprise I found a recording of Mondo Macabro's UK tv screening of one of the Kara Murat films: Kara Murat: Fatihin Fermani (1973) aka Karamurat, the Sultan's Warrior (starring Cüneyt Arkin). In Turkish with English subtitles and really good picture quality (well, at least good compared to some of the old beat up prints we're used to watching due to all other prints being lost). Never released on dvd, let alone English friendly vhs.
