    Re: Who runs Cinemageddon?

I've got to say I never did the "torrent" thing, the seeding, leeching, uploading, credits, potential for viruses, etc. (plus the damn long time you sometimes have to wait) scared me off.

There are a number of sites which simply post links to file-sharing sites and anyone who wishes to can go there and download the films. The sites themselves do not have anything on their own servers except the front page with the film titles and links, the files are hosted elsewhere. That system isn't foolproof and is prone to many of the issues torrent sites have (except the requirement to maintain a "credit" balance). I'm not sure if there is any financial incentive for those who host these kind of sites, except possibly advertising revenue, and maybe they get a kickback from the file-hosting sites if the downloads add up sufficiently.

That said, the basic issue of property rights (legal and moral) is the same. I suppose it also applies to streaming sites (even YouTube) which don't always obey the legal niceties either (although, given the bandwidth requirements, etc., they tend to be more commercial than personal, amateur, or private, hence a heavier reliance on public domain stuff).

So as far as the property rights issue is concerned, it hardly matters how the films are being downloaded.

Ah well that sure settles it! You go Daryl! So on top of being assholes they're also idiots? I guess I won't be using Cinemageddon for my torrent needs.

I think they are a great improvement over the old ones.
The rules do seem like a big improvement.

I'm honestly surprised, there's so much tough-guy posturing over there I never thought they'd actually respond to any criticism.

Why couldn't they just have been reasonable from the beginning instead of acting like they were the Lords of the Internet? There was a lot less conflict and shit disturbing when they came up with their porn rules for instance.

It'd about publicity, bro. Right now they think it's worse than a good thing.

    Personally, I agree.

Yes indeed. Great news and cool that they actually listened despite the ugly attitude (CG's that is). Hopefully they will remove all the previous stuff that's been debated.

    Re: Who runs Cinemageddon?

Well that's nice, now that I've been "disabled" for the cause haha. And right, dude.... I've asked nicely there numerous times to not have DVDrs, but got flamed my ass to hell until I was "afraid" of being banned. I'll never get let in again now, I'm sure....

What ARE the new rules, enlighten me. Have they deleted all the AHC/Synapse/42nd Street stuff?

These are the rules at the moment:
most of our rules are still over two years old, and some of them no longer reflect what we feel is appropriate content for the site. as such, they have been overhauled - this post will contain all of the most important changes, but we recommend you re-read the rules page.

this will be an ongoing process, any new revisions made will be reflected in this post.

of course, the rules aren't just here for our benefit - if there's any changes you think are important, tell us here. also, the overhaul was intended to make the rules simpler and easier to understand, so if any bits fail that requirement in your eyes, let us know how you think they could be improved.

    IMPORTANT CHANGES:
    - movies reprinted by the copyright holder within the past 12 months are still safe, but copies of the reprint itself are not.
    - movies are now automatically safe if their IMDB rating/votecount is low enough, or if there is no IMDB page at all.
    - the old automatic safe list no longer affects safety decisions.
    - the existing auto-unsafe rules supercede any auto-safe rules in all cases.
    - the 12-month rule now applies to all content on site, not just movies.
    - serial publications (magazines etc.) are now unsafe in their entirety if any edition was published within the past 12 months.
Don┤t know about the AHC stuff, but Hitler┤s Harlot and Cinema Sewer are gone.

I love/hate that site, all I do is use IP Hiders and leech off whatever I can before they ban me. Why do I hate Cinemageddon? the little nerds that dwell the forums and act stupid with you whenever you ask a simple little question.

Glad it's down, I hope they're all suffering by not downloading a copy of Working Girls ^_^
