All three are PAL, Region 0 and are to be released on 2/4/03 (same day as my Bronson titles)

Son of a...! I'm gonna have a hard time deciding 'Should I get a region free player or not?!'.

What player do you have, Michael? I've been browsing around. Luminous has a Malata 566 for a pretty good price.

I've got a DAEWOO 5800, which has done perfect work for my collection. Plays PAL/all regions with any problems. You can find these for around $80 at Sam's Club. Check the GENERAL and TRADES forums and do a search for region free players. There's been several HUGE topics dealing with various machines. Best Buy has a region free player for $60, do a search on this in the TRADES section.

If you are a Franco fan then a region free player is a MUST HAVE. A lot of his films are only out on PAL format, including these three. Don't forget that X-Rated is releasing A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD as a 2-disc, 4-version package. Four versions of VIRGIN is another must buy to me.

I just bought the new Sampo 612N, just came out in Dec.

Plays DVD-R(why I decided to pass on the Cyberhome), and displays anamorphic 16x9 PAL dvd's correctly - not all stretched out. Only $69 and you get a 1 year parts and labor warranty.

Jay, keep us updated on the performance of the Sampo. I used to own the Sampo 611 and it was a disaster! I know there used to be inherent problems with all Sampo players where disc's of all regions and formats would skip or freeze and I'm hoping they corrected that now.

Yeah, you're probably right. Oh well... I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with my copies of EXORCISM and VAMPYROS LESBOS for now!

I'll write-up a mini-review on the thing once I get it. Should get it sometime next week.

I've heard almost the entire run of Sampo 611's that were manufactured had a faulty loader, that caused the freezing and skipping problems you mentioned.

Thanks, I appreciate it! What does "This is not a region free unit" in the description mean? Does that mean it will play PAL but not R2, R3 or R4 disc's?

Just disregard that message, all you need to make it 'region free' is a simple remote control button sequence.

At least two of these may be the cut versions. The Spanish are the longest, but the German versions can be cut of 10 or more minutes of sex and violence.
