Re: New Coffin Joe film!
Sounds like the Blu-ray is considerably better:

Re: New Coffin Joe film!
I got very impressed by the latest (and last?) Coffin Joe-movie. José Mojica Marins sure didn't loose his edge of the years, and Embodiment of Evil is filled both old school Coffin Joe-adventures and some new nasty, gory, brutal surprises. The UK-dvd looks crap, but it dosen't stop the film from looking gorgeous.
My hair stood up a couple of times because how beautiful and cool it was. I especially like the inclusion of the black and white-segments and how he fused these with the new movie. The "demons" from his past worked very well, and just brought the Coffin Joe-saga to a full circle. |

This wasn't a total disappointment, but I wished it was crazier.

Re: New Coffin Joe film!
My favorite scene was when the black and white ghost of one of his past victims appears hanging from a tree, and then as a severed torso with tarantulas crawling out of her! Great stuff.

Re: New Coffin Joe film!
I liked it a lot. One problem though, and I say this with the utmost of respect to Marins as a filmmaker and actor and having placed Awakening of the Beast in my top 100 movies. The thing is, it's hard to take Coffin Joe as a serious threat considering he's in his 70's. I mean, he's an old man wielding a dagger, it's hard to perceive him as a threat. It's like Charlie Manson today, he's in his 70's, he's maybe 5'2 and 120 lbs, you could kick him and he'd belly over and that would be the end of the threat.
That's my only complaint. Otherwise it's a great film. I only wish Marins played the character in a limited manner; like we only see glimpses of Coffin Joe, etc. |

Re: New Coffin Joe film!
Great news to hear this is being picked up by Synapse. They'll do it justice.
