Sounds like an entertaining film from reading the review.

Re: Eyes of Crystal

This appelled so much to me, that I pre-ordered the DVD at Play.com. I hate that I'll have to wait in almost two months to get this, but it seems VERY interesting!

Re: Eyes of Crystal

I've only seen it in Italian, and despite not understanding much of the dialogue I had a brilliant time with it. In my opinion it's a couple of steps ahead of anything Argento has produced post-Stendhal, and goes some way towards making the giallo formula feel legitimate in a 21st century environment. You can read my view of the Italian release here.

Re: Eyes of Crystal

Any track record for the DVD release firm? Not got any of their releases before.

Looks like an interesting film, but I'll probably wait for first reviews before chipping in for the DVD.

Re: Eyes of Crystal

Twitchfilms says that these guys are doing amazing work with their dvd's, and I've heard good things about their release of Dead Meat.

So I'm taking the chance. And ya know, if they don't do good work, they don't get christmas presents!

Re: Eyes of Crystal

i'll buy the english dvd, this film looks promising!

i think that one of the last great italian thrillers (with Argento's "stendhal") is Alex Infascelli's "almost blue"...i'd like to watch his second film,"il sierro della vanita"!

I agree with you on Almost Blue, but unfortunately Il Siero della Vanita (The Vanity Serum) isn't nearly as good. I actually found it disappointing, after seeing the very promising trailer. Infascelli's direction is still solid, although not as flashy and not enought to hold the movie together this time around. It's nicely acted, but the story depends too much on uninteresting characters, while aiming at different subjects at the same time. In the end it feels unappealing, as it tries to be a giallo, a family drama, and a comment on the cutthroat TV business and its effect on society. It just doesn't work; none of the themes is explored enough, and the conclusion to the already bland mystery comes with a lousy sense of pacing. The plot deals with a series of kidnappings, so if you're expecting the usual giallo style murders you better look elsewhere. Not necessarily a bad movie, just not the movie to watch if you've liked Almost Blue and feel in the mood for some more Infascelli...

Re: Eyes of Crystal

Trivia fact- Eros Puglielli wrote and published an essay book on Dario Argento in the now oop Il Castoro collection, the same one where Alberto Pezzota published his take on master Bava.
Fact 2- There is a beautiful italian dvd, director commentary included.

I’ve pre-ordered the disc – it was originally due in November but has been bumped to the end of January. I’m really looking forward to this and ope it doesn’t get bumped back again.

Re: Eyes of Crystal

Just caught up with this and thought it was excellent - true to its giallo roots while not merely being a pastiche or museum piece. Three minutes in and I was already grinning because it was clear I was in the hands of someone who knew his stuff and then some. Top-notch performances, great faces, sharp cinematography, evocative music, nerve-jangling suspense sequences...plus there's a doll or three, a library scene, a museum scene, a classroom-lecture scene...

I'm not sure I completely understand the killer's motivation but that's about 12th in importance to me when it comes to gialli.

If I was making up a ten-favorite gialli list right now this would stand a good chance of making it on. Whether I will feel that way upon a second viewing, I don't know, but this impressed the hell out of me. I hope someone puts out a R1 DVD, as it needs to be better known.
