Le Samourai, finally! I've got the R2 but have been hoping for a Criterion release of this one for a while now. That Samurai boxed set looks great too.

Criterion is almost finished with Tales of Hoffman.

Just watched the CC release of Boudu - Saved From Drowning the other night. They did a nice job cleaning up the image, it looks very nice and the extras are pretty cool too. The film is very solid, very funny stuff and it's quite clever in the satire department as well. I enjoyed this one, other Renoir fans should dig it too.

I'm glad they have that Le Samourai coming out too. I just wish it had more in the way of extras. The job they did on Le Cercle Rouge is great.

Agreed. As popular as the film is and as influential as it is, you'd think they'd put more effort into the supplements.

In Nov, Criterion is releasing Tales of Hoffman, Ugetsu, Ran, and Pickpocket. Dec sees the Criterion releases of Forbidden Games and Shoot the Piano Player.

October 25th can't come soon enough. The Wages Of Fear and Le Samouria are must haves.

Any of you chaps seen the Criterion DVD releases of BAD TIMING and NAKED yet? What are the transfers like?

Just checked the Amazon comments on BAD TIMING, by the way, and found this comment on the movie, which struck me as funny:
I think I've actually dated women like Theresa Russell in BAD TIMING, so I'm not sure if I should be the one to recommend this film to anyone: it almost plays like a documentary.

There was the one who told me that mental illness ran in her family and that her mother holds a laminated photo of Robert Redford up to her mouth for all-day conversations--and she told me that on our first date. There was the other one who spoke in a little girl's voice when the lights were out--every night. And the one who begged me to tie her up and then, when I'd relent, freak out and yell that she was an abused child. Yup, they're out there.

So maybe that's why I totally fell in love with Theresa Russell as the girl in this film: she brings out my worst instincts: I'm attracted to her and want to save her too. Bad timing, indeed. It always has been for me. Ms. Russell is brilliant in this.

Actually, some of those stories strike home with me too: there was the girl who, during a first meeting, reeled off a list of her close family members' criminal convictions; there was another girl who became obsessed with my voice, to the extent that when we split up, she would telephone me in the early hours of the morning, asking me to tall her a story whilst she fell asleep (leading to a thread in the 'Off-Topic' board); and there was the other girl who... well, had a spanking fetish

Anyway, back on-topic: does anyone have any feedback on these discs?
    Thanks,
    Paul

My review for NAKED is on the front page. The disc is beautifully done. The transfer is anamorphic, AOR, and there is nary a complaint here. Despite the fact that most of the film is very dim and features numerous twilight scenes, detail is very sharp, the contrast is evenly balanced, and the black levels are what they should be on a great transfer. If you like the film, pick it up. The extras are also great, and the commentary is an entertaining listen.
