Don't Warners plan to release both Performance and Demon Seed on DVD in the UK early next year? I seem to remember hearing a rumour that this was the case.

    Cheers,
    Paul

As movies go it's hard to describe (and watch?). It's very very good.

Bad Timing not as good in my opinion - it doesn't have as much of the same experimental collage with sound + image that Roeg's earlier work had, but an interesting movie nonetheless.
    Hey,

I'd just like to reinforce Bill's praise for The Man Who Fell to Earth: it's a sometimes baffling but always brilliant movie. I disagree in that I don't find it hard to watch, but I agree that it is very hard to describe. It's an excellent film, but it's a very melancholic film, and it's criticism of contemporary society is quite savage. (But isn't that a trait of all Roeg's movies?)

I like Bad Timing, too, but the best part for me is the opening sequence (accompanied by Tom Waits' 'Invitation to the Blues'): that sequence has haunted me since I first saw the film, and I can't listen to the Waits song without seeing the opening scenes of Bad Timing in my 'skull cinema'.

    Cheers,
    Paul

CC are doing The Man Who Fell To Earth? The AB release isn't that old. Odd choice. Great film though.

Well, Criterion did release The Man Who Fell To Earth on laserdisc many moons ago. It was a nice set, expensive too, $100.00.

I'm just curious to see what they could add to the AB set that wasn't already there.

With as long as this is taking to get out, it better be an EXCEPTIONAL release. If it's just the theatrical cut with a couple of audio commentaries, Criterion will have proved themselves utterly irrelevant--a product like that could have been ready and released three years ago. But somehow I doubt this thing--if it EVER comes out--will blow anyone away with its thoroughness. Same thing with EQUINOX, if they really are even working on it.

I'll second that. Been praying for PERFORMANCE to get a release since I first got into DVD.

Going back to TMWFTE, I hope the Criterion disc includes the audio commentary from the Laserdisc.

I'm just hoping against hope (and I doubt that it'll happen, but I can dream) that Bowie's (supposedly proto-Low) score for TMWFTE has been unearthed. I've been wanting to hear that since I first read about it in the early 80s. Somehow I doubt it, though.
