Those with Blu-ray don't have to worry if the Fantoma releases become unavailable, as this new BFI Blu-ray is region-free. |

I got a press release on this this morning but didn't have time to post it yet. This is awesome news. I love the fact that stuff like this is actually getting BD treatment.

Did you see the SD discs that Fantomas put out? They were gorgeous to look at. I had only seen these on crappy vhs dupes before this and never really appreciated Anger's work. Seeing them restored blew my mind, I'm really curious as to how good the Bluray will look!

I didn't -- I've only ever seen his stuff on crap quality VHS as well.

The Fantoma discs were a revelation. The color and detail were so intense....Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome nearly melted my retinas.

Re: Magick Lantern Cycle (Kenneth Anger, 1947-1981)
The real revelation for me were the commentaries. The first time I watched his films, without commentary, I thought "here's a guy without compassion." I thought he was a totally selfish man without regard for humanity. Hearing him speak over the images, I developed a different image of the man. How many works of art languish in the archives of the ages without the privilege of the living artist. I for one am very glad Kenneth Anger put commentaries on these films. Without them I might have never seen his humanity.
