It's very good and treads a VERY fine line (as does most of Mr Morriss' output)...Its all fun and games until the ending when the realisation of what they are doing dawns on them...well, not all of them....

I thoroughly enjoyed it...not sure how places such as the United States woudl react to it though....it is definitely a British vibe of black comedy

Thanks to all the members of the forum who supported me in the contest to film The Stooges live at ATP. I was lucky to have filmed the show for a future bluray/DVD release. I was on the stage filming with 2 HD cameras. It was a hard shoot, but extremely rewarding.

All of the shots you see are stills from the video I shot for the film, so all of these images might make the final cut. I think the image looks great - I shot it with my new Canon t2i digital SLR camera. It was made as a still camera, but it also shoots video in full 1080p. The quality is so good that some Hollywood movies are being shot with these cameras. The best part is the price $900! Anyway, let me stop talking like a nerd about tech stuff.

There was only one spot on stage to shoot, so I grabbed it. It wasn't the best angle (to the right of Scott's drum kit behind the amp) to film, but I did my best to make it work. I had two cameras: One camera mounted on a tripod that I used to focus on Scott. I only tilted the camera occasionally to change angles, but only Scott is on that cam. My other camera was handheld and I focused on the rest of the band, and got some great shots. I shot Iggy's back and the crowd reacting. You can see a little of what I was going for in the pics.

After the show we did an interview with the band minus Mike, who I wish was there. I asked the same question that I asked on my submission video. After that I asked Scott a lame question about the differences on drumming between Raw Power and Funhouse. I did this because I wanted him to feel involved. Thankfully, he gave a great answer. After filming The Stooges preforming Raw Power, we got to interview Iggy, James Williamson and Scott Asheton for an hour. Afterwards to get to get a picture with the band. Bob Gruen(!) came in and took some photos as well, which I have yet to see. If you don't know who he is, you don't know rock music. He's the one who took the infamous John Lennon NYC T-Shirt photo!

Also, I want to thank the good people are MVD who were extremely kind during a most difficult shoot.

Oh, First Choice Superchannel, how I loved you in the 80's.....one of the greatest things about having divorced parents was the alcoholic father who didn't give a shit what you watched on TV when you were over at his place. Thanks to Superchannel and his un-watchful eye, I was able to catch such winning films as TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A, BLUE VELVET, and KANDYLAND. Okay, KANDYLAND might not have been so great a film, but hey, boobs when you're 12....you know.

One film , however, that stood out, was WISDOM. Starring Emilio Estevez and Demi Moore, it concerns a high school graduate who ends up with a felony charge on his record for grand theft auto, and subsequently can't keep a job. He ends up, with the help of Demi, robbing banks to destroy the mortgage and loan information, becoming a hero of the local farmers. For some reason, i watched the film over and over again, and absolutely LOVED it. Granted, I was big into stuff like THE OUTSIDERS, and Estevez was one of my favourite characters from that, but I haven't seen the film in probably 22 years.

I've noticed that it's available as part of the Warner archives...has anyone seen it recently? is it a good film in your opinion? Or, such as THE LAST STARFIGHTER was described in another thread, just a good memory from years ago that doesn't hold up?

A friend on mine pointed me to a bunch of new releases from Sony on the Critics Choice website, scheduled for Sept. 21 and the 28th. They're listed as dvd-r's with a list of $24.98, discounted to $21 or thereabouts. Here's the partial list he sent me (there are more if you want to go look) -

Soul of A Monster (1944)
The 27th Day (1957)
The Man Who Turned to Stone (1957)
The Spiritualist (already out on various PD labels as The Amazing Mr. X) (1948)
A Study in Terror (1965)
The Mad Room (1969)
The Mind of Mr. Soames (1970)
The 30-Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959)
Nightwing (1979)
A Reflection of Fear (1973)
The Night the World Exploded (1957)
Twelve to the Moon (1960)
Valley of the Dragons (1961)

This is interesting and confusing in light of their recent Image agreement. Are these titles not even of interest to Image? And what's with this ridiculously high retail that all the studios have settled on? There are a few I'd love to get, but not at $25 each. They should all be excellent transfers, though.

(With all the "true crime" books about motorcycle clubs these days, the world is probably ready for a new biker movie, but it would have to be all modern and stupid.) Anyway, I know there have been many instances of unrelated new movies re-using the titles of (generally superior) older movies because I used to see them listed in TV GUIDE and have a flicker of excitement followed by disappointment, although I am hard-pressed to think of any now. Maybe SCREAM? (Ha!)

After 8 years, my beloved Malata N996 all-region, PAL -> NTSC converting DVD player seems to have gone down for the count last Saturday. I think.

I turned it off manually via the power button on the player itself (long story why, there was a reason), rather than the one on the remote like I usually do. Only left it off for a minute or so, but something must have happened then. Ever since, I get just a very faint glimmering of some of the blue-green indicators on the display screen, but that's it, and no response when I press anything on the remote or any other button on the player. I tried unplugging it again for a few minutes, and then a few days, and plugging it into a couple different outlets around the room. Same results.

So does this sound like it's worth trying to get fixed, or is it a lost cause (or so expensive I might as well buy something else new)?

If the former, anyone know of a place in NYC (especially Brooklyn) that might be helpful? A quick google doesn't get me much.

If I don't take it somewhere, how do I get out the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN disc that's stuck inside it now?

I guess I'll leave questions about possible replacements for another thread, but no objections if anyone wants to chime in on that too.

::sigh::

Thanks,
MW

What films or whatever do you completely ignore the existence of? To you, it isn't cannon at all and should be ignored.

Right off the bat Alien Resurrection. The story ended with Alien 3, and it ended on just the right note. Resurrection may have the same actress as Ripley, but it isn't the same character.

Romero's 2nd Dead Trilogy. I think even those who liked the 2nd trilogy can't say with a straight face that any of those films are as good as the original trilogy. The original trilogy had fully developed characters, no cheap thrills, no CGI, and a satisfying ending for each one.

TV related: Family Guy Seasons 4 and up. The first 3 seasons are great. Hilarious shit. Season 4 and onward had forced jokes, pop-culture references galore, basically an animated version of those lame parody movies. I chalk this up to different writers, and Seth Mcfarland having diverted his attention with other shows.
