Following the method of the trend of DVD company themed threads in the exploitation forum, I've decided to start this one here to accommodate all news regarding upcoming Distribpix releases instead of creating a separate thread every time a new film, extra or restoration is announced.

Discussion of current releases is also welcome as well as questions/suggestions for future DVDs are all welcome.

To get the ball rolling, here's the latest on what's been going on with MISTY, etc.

The initial late May/early June release plan for THE OPENING OF MISTY BEETHOVEN is being pushed back because extras are still being amassed. Each time it seems like there's nothing new to add, something inevitably pops up that seems crucial to the release. Needless to say, this is going to be a mammoth package and well worth the wait.

While MISTY is still taking center stage, some other restorations are underway, including Chuck Vincent's ROOMMATES and Danny Steinman's HIGH RISE, both of which were scanned in 2K this past weekend.

THE EROTIC MEMOIRS OF A MALE CHAUVINIST PIG, which was announced for release nearly a year ago but never materialized, will finally be making its DVD debut sporting a brand new HD transfer as well as a liner notes booklet, theatrical trailer and a Georgina Spelvin interview. The reason for the delay was that previously only an SD transfer had been preformed and it was determined that the quality of the initial transfer was insufficient and that it needed to be rescanned in 2K, so now that that's been done, the release is almost ready to go! A street date is coming soon.

Finally, Distribpix is planning on starting a 'Grindhouse' sub-label as a means of putting out the hundreds of titles in the archive that exist only as 16mm and 35mm release prints (no negs or answer prints). These releases will be bare-bones double or triple features in the style of what AHC, ABA, and SWV has been doing for years, but with one major difference: print/transfer quality. Every print chosen for transfer will be both verified as complete (no missing scenes/truncated versions) and will be scanned in 2K to maximize image quality. The goal is to make these movies look as good as can be with the materials available.

That's all I've got for now!

Instead of re-releasing stuff over and over again, studios should get off their fat asses and give those classics the home video treatment that they deserve.

Have done a forum thread search and can not find any existing threads about the TV series Midnight Caller, which originally ran on NBC from 1988 to 1991.

Fingers crossed one day Warners will release at least the first season on DVD, either as a pressed disc or MOD release.

It doesn't seem to have been shown much at all on TV since it ended in the early 90's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time Midnight Caller was last shown in the UK was when ITV repeated the first season late night. Who originally showed the series in the UK, was it the BBC or ITV? My earliest memory of the series was what I think was from the last episode (the third part of a three-part story), with a scene at the San Francisco radio station with Jack Killian (played by Gary Cole) in the studio.

It's first season was originally shown on NBC at 10 pm on Tuesday nights, during the same season as the fourth and final season of The Equalizer, the 1988-89 season.

Sorry to start a new thread here, but the release of this film has not gotten NEARLY enough attention on the Camera Obscura thread. I thought of mentioning it there, but I haven't yet seen/can't afford the Camera Obscura DVD ($35 USD plus). However, I do want to tout the film itself.

This is a very good Italian movie with elements of a giallo, a crime drama, and a Patty Hearst-type hostage drama. Michele Placido is amazing as a poor Sicilian boy whose gang kidnaps a rich northern Italian girl, who he ends up falling in love with. The girl is played by German Playboy Playmate Rena Neihaus in what has to be the best performance I've ever seen by a Playboy Playmate. One of the other actors was in "The Night Train Murders". The movie actually spawned a sequel "Oedipus Orca" with Neihaus, the same director, and Placido in a cameo role, but it didn't approach the power of the original.

Anyway, I'd like to here more about the Camera Obscura release if anyone has seen it yet. . .
