View Full Version : Replacement covers for Beverly Wilshire DVDs

If anybody is interested, I've been playing around with the idea of making new covers for the Beverly Wilshire mexican horror movies that I have since the covers are so awful in my opinion.

I've attached one that I'm working on for World of the Vampires using original poster art for the front cover and a couple of stills for the back. I'll probably be doing the same for Samson vs the Vampire Women, Vampire's Coffin, The Bloody Vampire and Bring Me the Vampire and if anybody is interested, I can post them when finished.

And yes, I do have too much free time. :)

Ahem. If you need any other stills, posters feel free to look at my site and see what you can come up with. Just click the www below.

And keep 'em coming!:)

Thanks, I'll do that. I don't remember where I got the stills and poster for World of the Vampires, but hopefully whoever I did get them from won't be too annoyed that I'm using them. :)

That cover looks mighty fine.

If you ever get bitten by the spaghetti western bug, start with the Sabata films.:)

that looks great! very cool! but can you make them with 300dpi? printing at screen resolution (72dpi) won't look too good.

YES! Do this! And what's the best stock of paper to use???

Hi. Thanks everybody.. :) The cover I posted was just a sample. I was actually doing them at 150dpi. I printed the World cover at that resolution and it looks great to me. Theres some grain and such visible in the poster at that size but the printout looks smooth. I've added a bit to that cover and will post it later. :)

OK, Heres the fullsize cover. I would have done it at 300dpi but the poster would be a mess blown up to that size. I've heard that it will print out fine at 150dpi (and my print confirms that) so thats what we have here. As it is now, the poster isn't really clean. I could spend more time cleaning it up but I just cranked this one out quick. Let me know how it works.

I'll work on other covers soon. Its not always easy finding poster art for some of these movies, though stills won't be a problem since I can make my own screenshots.

If you have anything you want to see, either a specific cover or maybe certain stats for the back, let me know. I tried to add everything I thought was relevant (b&w/color, year it was filmed, runtime, etc).

Thanks again.. :)

Very nice! If you are doing Samson vs the Vampire Women can I also put a request in for Samson in the Wax Museum?

too bad you couldn't find anyone with the book:

Mexican Horror Cinema: Posters from Mexican Fantasy Films (ISBN: 968-5077-01-0)

and then you could make 300dpi scans.

Rodrick: Sure, I'll do Wax Museum.. :)

OK, Heres a quick cover I did for The Bloody Vampire. This one is much cleaner than the first.

This one looks very cool. Nice work.

The BWF dvds are truly in need of custom inserts. I think the internet has enough variations of the Terminator 2 dvd art.

Thanks for these much needed updates!

I'd be happy to write text copy for the back of SANTO VS THE VAMPIRE WOMEN and/or SANTO IN THE WAX MUSEUM if you'd like any assistance! ;)

Again: What is the best kind of paper to use for printing replacement DVD covers?

Jason P
08-08-2003, 03:35 AM
Thanks guys.. :)

As for printer paper.. I really don't know. I just use 24lb HP bright white inkjet paper.. Its not glossy and really isn't the best for printing these things but its all I have for now. I have gotten some terrific results with it though.

And sure Brian, that would be cool if you want to write copy for the Santo DVDs.. You may want to wait until I start on them though. Up to you.. :)

Gary Banks

Brian I might suggest "brochure" paper. It has a slickness to it akin to what you would find in a dvd cover with a lot of gloss which plain paper doesn't have. But the slickness is on both sides...

And Jason these look freaking great!

They do indeed look beautiful! This is one of the myriad reasons why this is the coolest forum going.Great work Jason.

Thanks Jason, these are great.

And Andrews suggestions for SW covers gets a big hefty second from me. Though I think you should start with Bandidos :)

I'm sure I'm not doing these in the order you guys want to see.. :) Having trouble finding good poster art/lobby cards for some of these movies.

Anyways, I'm not thrilled with this one, but heres Bring me the Vampire!

i think it looks great.

as for paper, i use different kinds depending on what look i want. there's photo paper, photo quality glossy paper (thinner than photo paper), photo quality ink jet paper, high quality ink jet paper, photo film, etc. etc.

I haven't had alot of time to work on them lately, but I do have some art for The Vampire's Coffin and Samson vs the Vampire Women and will try and get those up in the next week or so. :)

Well I'm not crazy about this one either but I couldn't find very attractive art for this movie. Ohwell. Better than the Beverly Wilshire DVD I suppose?

By the way.. Am I crazy or does German Robles look an awful lot like Prince?

W:DW!

If there are any others in the Mexican horror series that you're looking for poster art/stills on let me know. I have a buttload that I didn't put out on my site due to the varying sizes.

Most groovy.

Q: What is the correct size (dimensions) of a DVD keepcase sleeve insert?

Joe L

If you have any art for Samson in the Wax Museum and Samson vs the Vampire Women, I could use those. I have some for both but they're kind of small and aren't the best. Thanks. :)

As for the correct dimensions.. I'm not sure, but these covers should be right. I used a cover template that I got somewhere on the net.

Thanks everybody.. :)

Santo or Samson?
that would be a cool project... one with Santo and one with Samson.

Alright, I got the text for Wax Museum off Ebay.. Heres the cover. I know the american titles for these movies use the name Samson instead of Santo, but I thought I would put Santo on the covers anyways.

Heres Santo in the Wax Museum!
