I've never heard of the film getting a DVD release before. Seems that since their is no box art and the pic used is for "reference purposes only" that this could be a VCD of the film. Be careful here. :)

It's probably a DVD-R bootleg.

It's a dvd-r bootleg. When it says comparable to a vhs that is a dead giveaway.

Paramount will probably be releasing this next year so I'd just wait. DVD-R is becoming VERY popular on Ebay, so I'd watch out. Also, watch buying ANY Criterions from Korea. BOOTLEGS

Has Paramount actually stated anything about releasing this? Last I heard they had no plans.

They haven't officially announced it but when they did that poll last year, the majority of the titles picked by the fans have been announced so I don't see why FOUR FLIES won't be coming. It was one that got the most votes.
Unless Argento gets himself involved, we'll won't be seeing a special edition or anything.

Hope it's true, this needs to be released.

I'd agree that this one needs a DVD release. Since Michael has a feeling Paramount may get to it, I'll probably skip this DVD-R bootleg of the film. Unfortunately while I have two copies of this movie, one is a barely watchable copy from Japanese laserdisc (WS) and the other is a slightly more watchable copy from another import source (P&S).
I really need to see this one in proper quality to get a better feel as to whether it's a top notch Argento film or not.

I've only ever seen it on horrible P&S VHS.

If you REALLY want to see the film then you should go on and buy the DVD-R. Paramount has already commented that the film elements they have are horrid and a lot of major work will be needed. I wouldn't expect this until the fourth quarter of 2003 if not early 2004.

I bought a boot VHS from Midnight Video like 3 or 4 years ago and while the quality is real ass (not the dupe job, but the print is severly damaged) it is OAR and Uncut. Not bad if you don't mind forking over like $22 plus shipping for a VHS.

Actually, Midnight's tape is not uncut, as it's missing some footage due to print damage - notably the introduction of "God" and the Professor, with God heralded with a choir on the soundtrack - as well as footage from the bathtub lovemaking scene that Paramount snipped in the US.

Is the Japanese laser cut? This is the only way I've ever seen this one, from a dupe or that laser.

I've never seen that version, so I couldn't say. I've seen three versions - one a scratchy full frame 16mm dupe, one from a French cassette (uncut) crudely dubbed into English and the Midnight tape already referred to.
