Rhapsody in August is a decent Ozu like film that while not one of Kurosawa's best films is good and features good performances by it's main cast, particularly the leading actress.

One thing I like Kurosawa is his ability to transport the works of Shakesphere or Doestovsky into Japanese culture without losing the spirit of their work.

I think his early desire to become a painter is shown in the look and photography of his best work.

My faves are Rashomon and High & Low. Ikiru is great, but a tad bit slow. Need to rewatch Seven Samurai, to me it's basically the Japanese Lawrence of Arabia, a great sprawling epic but a little overrated. Yojimbo is superb. I find Ran and especially Kagemusha to be kind of overrated.

Weirdly enough, I'm actually a much bigger fan of the man who copied Kurosawa: Sergio Leone.
