Someday I'd like to write a book about all the universally panned films that I think are cinematic masterpieces (or are at least way more entertaining), and I'm going to devote an entire chapter to this guy. He's a totally inept storyteller, but his works are so silly, outrageously gory, and endearingly nonsensical that I've loved every one I've seen. The kung-fu battle between domesticated animals in The Cat is one of the greatest sequences ever committed to celluloid.
Anyone else feel the same way?

I'm the only one who really digs this guy, huh?

As it turns out I'm a fan of his and didn't know it. EROTIC GHOST STORY, HER VENGEANCE, PEACOCK KING, RICKY-OH, THE CAT, all great movies (though RICKY is over-rated in my opinion). I think I'm getting less "autuerist" as I get older as I wasn't even aware that all these films shared the same director. Or maybe it's some sort of latent racism on my part. You know, "all Chinese directors(' movies) look the same" Not cool, Jared. Anyway thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I also love this guy, but I don't have anything interesting to say right now, lol.
