View Full Version : Richard Stanley's BLACK SUNDAY?

The director of DUST DEVIL, an enthusiast of Italian horror, has an exciting sounding new version of "The Vij" also the source of the classic BLACK SUNDAY. Set in the contemporary hell of the Serbo Croatian conflict the treatment indicates that the ancient folk superstitions which drove the Bava film have developed in the midst of ethnic fighting, religious fueds, Soviet influence and the Nato backed war. The treatment is online. I'm getting the url now. Sounds very interesting and Stanley is a director known for going his own way, away from the mainstream.

Sounds promising, moreso than the flat out remake Tim Burton wanted to do as a vanity project for his girlfriend Lisa Marie.

I have been rooting for Stanley to get back to genre filmaking and this sounds like a great project. I could see it working on many levels...social, political as well as a horror film. I know Stanley has made some documenteries, I believe one in Afghanistan. In a way he reminds me of Alex Cox, who is also a documentarian and has a keen intrest in politics.
Great news Bob, I hope it comes to pass.

What I like about it is that it goes back to the source which inspired MB and reimagines the material for today's world. Better than just a straight remake, imo. Apparently, RS got the idea while researching a documentary on Croatian terror groups. He's searching for funding, which I hope he finds. Bruce Holochek posted about this on mhvf. The url is www.selloutpictures.com, I think. Bruce, if you see this could you post the complete, correct url? Thanks.
