Phil is so goddamn cool.

he isn't so cool on the new Down live album. One song, can't recall the name, is plain awful and he sounds like an idiot.

I think he's sobered up since this was recorded (2006) and by all accounts his voice has improved dramatically. Having said that, I found the movie very watchable (Jim Van Bebber was very involved in it's production) and I thought the songs sounded better w/visuals than they did in the CD player of my car. And I don't think Phil is an idiot when he's not high...it's just that he used to be perpetually stoned so he came off that way :)

According to interviews with the band, most of Van Bebber's footage didn't make it to the film as it was unwatchable. The guitarist Pepper Keenan was said to have done 95% of the editing. Van Bebber is credited as a camera operator. The bassist, Rex Brown, said, "I think he ended up in prison not too long afterwards."

The DVD is not a good representation of what Down is like live now. Their tour in 2009 was amazing. Phil really stepped up and his performance is the best it's been since the 90s.

Apparently Van Bebber was making a drunken fool of himself at the recent Cinema Wasteland.....there's video on Youtube, he can barely stand up or keep his eyes open.

I think it's really in poor taste that it was uploaded to begin with. Plus, that dudes channel is fucking weak as hell. Always has been, always will be... them types are a fucking dime a dozen.
