I think we've collectively sought the most obscure pieces of Exploitation/Horror and we come to a point where you think 'Well, I think I've seen it all now." and then just so suddenly you find out about something like The Sinful Dwarf, White Fire (only action flick featuring a Chainsaw), Cross of the Seven Jewels, Rolf: The Last Mercenary and etc.

So, yeah. What else is left guys? What other obscure films are out there that are virtually unheard of?

Well, lots of Japanese girl gang movies from the 70s still need to get released.

Just to clarify; I'm not talking about film that need to be released on DVD. I'm talking about really amazing obscure (key word) films that very few people in cult circles have ever heard of.

How about films being made right now? I suspect that we're living in a golden age of genre film making right now but it's the no budget genre flicks that are good and generally you don't get to see them. I spend a fair bit of time at festivals with my own films and so watch a lot of no budget unreleased flicks and there's some great stuff being made that's not seeing the light of day. I've only seen one out and out masterpiece (from 2006 or so and no ones releasing that) but generally speaking the standard is getting to be very high. Certainly a lot better than the genre films that are getting released.

That's kind of like Rumsfeld's "unknown unknowns." I didn't know about Pinky Violence until Panik House rolled along. It was a whole new genre for me to creepy-crawl. I won't know what else is out there until it finds me.

Some movies are super obscure even in the cult film enthusiast circles. For example :

My Lovely Burnt Brother And His Squashed Brain
Ogroff
Offerings
The Resurrection Of Michael Myers (80s'swedish Fan Films)
The House On The Outskirts

I've posted about these in various message boards and gotten almost no replies, and there isn't a wealth of reviews on imdb, or at least there weren't as of a couple of years ago. It's good to know there's ALWAYS an endless list of obscure shit to check out though!!!

What's left? Good lord, I'm still plowing through Italian cinema - and I started on that about 15 years ago! :)

Andy - I look forward to watching That House on the Outskirts very soon!

Yeah, I think there's plenty left. I'm afraid I might not live long enough to simply watch all the movies I have recorded right now.

"Offerings" is an interesting movie. That's actually on DVD now. I've hear of the "Squashed Brain" movie. And, like Troy, I have "House on the Outskirts" and am planning to watch it real soon--maybe tonight!

Speaking of "The Sinful Dwarf", if you were watching that and you said to yourself that what this movie really needs is some hardcore penetration scenes and some forced enemas, well than you have to see "Il Nano Erotic" (aka Being Captured--The Babsitter aka The Erotic Dwarf). I saw it in Italian, but Cinema de Bizarre has released it with English subtitles. I've thought about getting it, but there is NO WAY I am going to watch that movie again. For those of you that haven't had your mind and your sensibilities savagely raped yet, however. . .

Cinema de Bizzare is probably just selling the fansubbed version I've seen floating around on torrent sites. Being Captured is said to be directed by Cavallone by the way, the same director who did Blue Movie, but his other films are much more interesting and mostly still unavailable or only available in very poor bootleg quality. For midget porn, there's the equally demented and much more fun Brazilian midget vampire porno A Taras do Mini Vampiro.

So yes, I'd say there's lots more stuff to discover.

My Lovely Burnt Brother And His Squashed Brain

I've seen this. It's shot on 8mm, is it not? While Nathan Schiff suprisingly got special edition DVD releases of several of his films, how about the late 80's/early 90's super 8 features of Rock Savage and David "The Rock" Nelson (two different guys)? I have a couple of them, but most aren't even listed on IMDB.

Yeah, you can't beat the chainsaw action scene in TIGER ON BEAT. At least I've never seen anything that comes close. Not WHITE FIRE, not BLACK SHAMPOO -- nuttin'. Hopefully one day someone will top it!

As far as "what is left?", the important thing is to always stay open and ready to discover the next thing. As soon as you start to feel like you've seen all there is to see, you've lost.

Personally, one of my latest "discoveries" is NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE. Where has this movie been all my life?

Yeah, that's actually why I saw it (I don't generally make a habit of watching dwarf porn). I REALLY liked Cavallone's "L'uomo, La Donna,y la Bestia". "Being Captured" is definitely a couple steps down from that (but certainly very demented). I haven't seen "Blue Movie" yet.

I've been avoiding Brazilian XXX films ever since I saw Coffin Joe's "24 Hours of Explicit Sex", which has honest-to god bestiality in it (and I'm not talking about Ron Jeremy either). There's probably a few things out there you may not WANT to discover.

80's Filipino Bold/Pene/Experimental cinema. Fortunately Mondo Macabro released the mother fucker of them all, SILIP. Also the equally stupendous SCORPIO NIGHTS is available nearly uncut with subs as a torrent. Other titles are only available as heavily censored dvds or crappy unsubtitled VHS sourced copies if you can find a copy at all.

Robin,

Yeah, " TIGER ON BEAT" was a nice treat to discover.
Almost up there with Ricky - Oh. For a good long while
that HK stuff just kept getting more and more out there.
I got used to seeing like four or five genres all rolled into
one and then Anthony Wong bites off one of his fingers and eats it
or gets wrapped up in some kind of S & M plastic sheet and suspended
from the cieling. Early 80s to early 90s were golden years for HK films.
Those were heady times.

But you are so right. Getting turned onto others genres, directors,
the films of other countries. Then there is the joy in seeing so much
worthwhile in a film that just passed you by or went clean over your head as a youth.

It really is never ending.

Steve

There is soooo much left. Why not start with General massacre:

""General Massacre" is an ultra-weird film that received some extra attention from me since it's a Belgian-American co-production. With me being Belgian and this being a very rare cult gem…this was an absolute must see. The film describes itself best as a mixture between an anti-war protest film and the psychological analysis of a deranged war freak. This review will simply be too short to sum up all the bizarre (most very shocking) elements "General Massacre" features but I can already tell you it contains enough controversy to last a lifetime. The story focuses on a veteran (the General) who served the military during WWII, Vietnam and the Korean War. He has quite a few alarming conceptions about warfare ("politics are the extension of war", "Civilians are as much the enemy as men in uniform"…) When he returns to his estate in Antwerp, he continues to live under the impression of being in command of his troops and hikes into the nearby woods fully armored. This leads to a couple very disturbing and repulsive scenes that made this production the ultimate nightmare for critics and film committees. Once sequence in particular, in which the General sees an ordinary cow as the "enemy" and butchers it, caused this to movie to be forbidden in several European countries. Granted, the cruelty often is pointless and overly explicit. The above mentioned sequence even looks too realistic…if you know what I mean. But the message "General Massacre" brings is far too impressive to be left untold. War too easily gives deranged people an excuse to feast their perverted world perspectives and the authorities only find out when it's too late! "General Massacre" almost completely is a one-man-project by Burr Jerger who directed, produced, stars and adapted the screenplay from his OWN novel. That's impressive to say the least. This is an unhinged authentic cult film, totally unknown to the world."

A great largly unknowed movie.

I'm reading 10,000 Ways To Die by Alex Cox right now and he's talking about some spaghetti westerns I've never heard of, and I already have a lot of that genre.

There's still a lot out here which I want to view, if not possess.
Akos Udvari can colloborate that over on EGAFD (http://www.egafd.com/index.php), there has been threads posted about Greek theatrical hardcore movies from the mid-to-late 1980s [circa 1984-88].
{edit} I've been avoiding Brazilian XXX films ever since I saw Coffin Joe's "24 Hours of Explicit Sex", which has honest-to god bestiality in it (and I'm not talking about Ron Jeremy either). There's probably a few things out there you may not WANT to discover. Oh yeah? Well, I want more of that too. Besides "Soccer Sex" and other porno chanchadas. I actually found this description somewhere:
"48 Hours Of Explicit Sex" [1985: Brazil{São Paolo}. Producer: Mario Lima. Director: José Mojica Marins. Run Time: 90']
- Unless you lived in Brazil, you will not know these performers -

This is a bizarre movie, people. I have shown its predecessor, "24 Hours of Explicit Sex". José Mojica Marins (more known as "Coffin Joe" from his horror movies) admitted that he loathed explicit motion pictures. He set out to make the most unerotic example. But when "24 Hours" became a box-office spectacular, he received an offer to make another one. The first minutes of this movie show the theatres still running "24 Hours" (in its 13th & 16th weeks). José & his producer Mario give themselves real roles. They are contacted by a middle-aged female who was so stunned by "24 Hours" that she wants to present the next one. So this becomes a “movie-within-a-movie”.

Since the first movie had its males going at it for one day, José opts to have the sequel depict a two-day contest. Both our wise-cracking parrot, & our (gay?) emcee return, but the increase in the endurance factor required an equipment upgrade. He now uses a microcomputer. We have a set-up in which we get an inkling that our productress has some sexual baggage.

We get to the contest. Our participants look good, are in good spirit, and they do not mind the distractions of being pawed and jolted by our film crews. This segment plays like a documentary. We see the crews scrambling as a male is about to splooge (alerted by sparsely dressed females with blue semaphore flags); and then we view what they lensed. The climax is credited on the computer.

There is no genteel way I can scribe this. I'll let you know that, yes, we do glimpse our productress' sexual baggage. I believe you will never again glimpse imagery like this in any erotic movie. However, I also believe that no laws of Brazil were violated.

Due to this imagery, I feel relieved from my regular vow to not reveal the ending. José breaks through her fear of sensuality. She finally allows her fiancé to swive her. They marry. And they have a joyous banquet at a restaurant, complete with a lounge singer, which does not turn into an orgy. Finally, I still seek those uncensored Japanese Adult Videos from the early 1980s, when pioneering directors believed that private, for home-viewing only productions, did not need Eirin's certification. Of course, since censorship bodies loathe attempts to make end runs around them, Eirin stepped in and demanded mosaicing. But the uncensored videos were exported to the U.S.A. and were reviewed by Robert Rimmer in the first two volumes of "The X-Rated Videotape Guide".
