Hidey-ho folks,

I just wanted to let Maniacs in the New England area know that my pals and I at SATURDAY FRIGHT SPECIAL are once again presenting a gruesomely gore-ious night of 35mm retro horror bliss with a
35mm Spooktacular screening of 1985's RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD at the historic Colonial Theatre in Keene, NH at 7pm on Saturday October 30th.

Before the film we'll have vintage 80s (and earlier) horror trailers and snack bar ads, and during intermission we'll give away an original zombie sketch by horror comics icon
S.R. Bissette (SWAMP THING, TYRANT, TABOO), DVDs, T-shirts and more, as well as hold a zombie costume contest. We're encouraging folks to come in zombie costume,
both to give you the effect of watching a zombie film surrounded by zombies, and also to see the reaction of bystanders after the show as a theater full of the undead empties out onto Main Street.

Tickets are $10.00, available at www.thecolonial.org and at the door.

In addition to other as-yet-unannounced prizes, we'll also be giving away a signed photo of ROTLD stars Thom Matthews (Freddy) and Beverly Randolph (Tina)!

Just locked the selection and sequence of trailers for next Saturday night's screening. Man, these are going to be worth the price of admission alone, if I do say so myself. Plenty of vintage 80s 35mm goodness.

Here's a peek at the original sketch that comic artist S.R. Bissette (SWAMP THING, TYRANT) is donating for our mammoth prize giveaway:

...and that's just the shimmering tip of the prize iceberg...

Okay, the day just keeps getting cooler.

We've confirmed that S.R. Bissette and current and former students at the Center For Cartoon Studies (in White River Junction, VT) will be holding a comic signing at Comic Boom in Keene (55 West Street, just up around the block from the Colonial Theatre) from noon-4pm this Saturday, the day of the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD screening. They'll also be donating comics and original sketches for our massive series of giveaways; the last time the CCS gang donated material was for our BRIDES OF DRACULA screening last year, and their items blew our socks off, so we can't wait to see what they come up with this year.

Here's a taste of what's up for grabs....a terrifically Trash-tastic rendition of possibly the most memorable scene from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, courtesy of MONSTERS AND GIRLS and AMELIA artist Denis St. John:

If all that wasn't enough, the Keene State College Film Society will be running a 35mm print of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON in 3D at 4pm, and a new 35mm print of PSYCHO at 11pm!

So, in theory, you could hit Comic Boom from noon-3:30, head over to Keene State for CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON at 4, have dinner, then hit the Colonial Theatre for RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD at 7, and still be out with plenty of time to hit PSYCHO at 11!
