Awesome. I've been holding out for this one ever since Gimme Shelter was announced as part of the original batch of Criterions BDs. But it was postponed along with Monterey Pop, which I believe is being released before the end of the year too.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Gimme Shelter again. The last time I saw it was on VHS in the 80s.

I have both on SD and found them to be really excellent all the way around. One thing that really struck me was the quality of the sound. Those guys must have tied into a board run by a fantastic crew. The sound on Monterey Pop, even in that great disc of outtake performance is even BETTER than the CDs.
Gimme Shelter is grainy to begin with so would be curious to see what a BR edition looks like. You can't scrape all that shit off your shoes (Stones pun), some of it is supposed to be there. Again the sound was fabulous. The sequences filmed in Madison Square Garden are awesome.
One of my favorite scenes, however, has always been when they are all sitting around listening to a playback of Wild Horses. The sequences lasts the whole length of the song and we just watch how they listen to it. The ending cymbal swoosh that is acted out by Mick Jagger is the perfect close . Far and away one of my all time favorite documentaries, films about music, the Stones and just plain a great film period.
