View Full Version : sleeve "templates"

This is a pet peeve of mine. I noticed on some of these high def releases, companies will alter the artwork by placing a "template" over it. Example, Universal was really bad on their HD-DVDs. They had an oval shape around each of the covers with the words "The Look and Sound of Perfect." Seriously, WTF?! I picked up a Lions Gate blu-ray today, it has the artwork appear to be at an angle, with grey on the top and bottom with the words "1080p / Beyond High Definition." First off, it's not beyond HD, it is HD. It's beyond standard definition. At any rate, why are companies doing this to the artwork? It's quite ugly. I hope companies stop doing this. </ End of Rant>.

Technically, 720p is high definition. So they have a minor point...
However, I agree with you. I also hate the pokey little cases. Bring back the gorgeous huge laserdisc artwork!

Haha, please don't. I'm running out of space as it is.

I think the whole "Beyond High Definition" thing is a relic of the format war with HD-DVD.
But I agree the extranious crap cluttering up artwork is lame.

In some ways, I'm glad they put that all over the cases. It looks like shit, but when they don't do it we have people renting the Blu Ray version and bitching that it won't play in their DVD player. When I ask them if they have a blu-ray player they stare at me blankly.
However, from a collector of home videos point of view....it's disgusting.
