They are coming out individually and in box set. The Damajin and Gamera box set is pretty decently priced at only 14-16K yen. The release dates and full info is in the link above. I have to say the price is pretty damn decent compared to the old LD and DVD days.

Some pics from recent airings of the films on TV.

The original eight Gamera films and the three Daimajin films are being issued by Kadokawa Entertainment in Japan this June. There are no details on possible extras. This following link was posted by Joseph Goodman over at the Classic Horror Film Boards: http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20090403_80398.html

Here are some sample captures, courtesy of Ian Friedman of HK Film News (http://hkfilmnews.blogspot.com/), from the HDTV transfers of these films:

I never know where to post on these boards... I post in Asian, it gets moved; I post in DVD, it gets moved... :P

BTW, according to Japanese sources, Kadokawa has no plans for English subs on these.

Figures. If they were to include English subs, this releases would definitely push me over to buying a BD player.

No English subs? Why limit the saleability of these? Darnit...

Anyway, once they do go on sale, where will someone in the states be able to buy them?

That's because these are for the Japanese market (therefore, there is no need for English). Then again, I've seen some of these companies contradict themselves...

I understand they're for the Japanese market, but they would make more money just by adding subs, because it's doubtful that these will be released anytime soon in the states, if ever.

Hey, really. Who cares about subs? Its Gamera we're talking about here. Its like porn: We dont watch it for the dialogue, we watch it for the massdestruction.

Seriously, it doesnt matter if there are subs or not, this will make me get a Blurayplayer.

With Gamera (at least the old ones), their plots aren't exactly Shakespeare plays.

The new Gameras and particularly the Majin films, however, are much more driven by their human plots.

You could do what I did and learn some Japanese. :D

Does anyone have any follow up information on these releases? Any English subs? I can't read Japanese, sorry to say but I would love to get a hold of these.

I'd even settle for just a dubbed version. That screen grab of Majin parting the water is giving me a boner. It would be great to upgrade the disappointing non-anamorphic, scratchy standard def version from a few years back.
