Of the films in the Samurai trilogy, what is the favorite?

Have seen the first film, a sweeping samurai film that is more character study then action film. Features yet another good performance by Mifune. Will be seeing the second film later today, or maybe tomorrow.

Samurai 2 continues the story of the road to enlightenment for the protagonist as he has to face a samurai in a duel and soon after his retainers. More emphasis on action, though it is subdue, even with its high body count.

Have yet to see the third, and final film in the trilogy, but plan on doing so, once I get it this weekend.

Finished watching the Samurai trilogy, and after careful thought, although I like the first two films very much, I found myself to like the 3rd film the best. Here Mifune gives a restaint and complex performance that's among his best roles. Very few I believe could play Musashi Miyamoto past or present with the same type of iconic presence that Toshiro exhibits in the trilogy. The final film has some sad moments. One of which, is when he faces his rival, Koijuro, especially after when he feels a sense of loss because of the fact that Kojiro was his equal.

From the five films I've seen of the director's work(including the trilogy) they are more character and story driven than action(there are moments of action here and there).
