View Full Version : Do I have a gambling problem?

My wife accused me this morning of being a gambloholic, now I would like to know if I have a problem or not.
I would guess that I gamble for like $1-5 (each) on weekdays and $50-100 on weekends. Only on soccer or hockey never horses or dogs or lottery or bingo or what have you. Do you guys think I have a problem? I mean in a longer period of time, like a month or so, I almost always (90%) break even or with a small profit?

Yes, you do have a problem. The fact that you could piss away 100 (Even if you do break even; the fact that you would put more than 5 bucks on the line is absurd) is unreal. Unless you are making money more than 50,000 dollars a year; there is no reason to put money on the line like that. Do you realize how many Alpha DVDS you can buy with 100 Dollars? 20!!!

Buy your wife more candy... she'll thank you for it.

the amount doesn't matter.
winning or loosing doesn't matter.
if you feel you can't control yourself = problem.
if you can't handle the thought of stopping = problem.
being light-hearted about it, thinking it's no big deal, but you still can't stop yourself = problem.
asking others what their opinion is of your behavior = the first stage of realizing you might have a problem.
good luck (no pun intended)

I agree with trollech...are you spending money daily because you like to, or are you spending money daily because you HAVE to? But if you're asking, odds are that you have a problem.
That being said, think of all the money that you would have weekly if you didn't gamble? I'm assuming that it's not paying off very much, or else your wife wouldn't be mentioning it.

I've never been enticed by putting money on the outcome of something I have no control over.(Of course I've never had that kind of cash to play with either). So maybe it is unfair for me to judge you on it. But that is quite an amount to piss away on a monthly basis even if you do "break even" most of the time.

Maybe I should start cutting down a bit on the gambling then. But the italian sundays are holy. They will stay. But the rest will have to go. At least for a while to see how I feel. (Maybe ill buy even more DVDs)

I think it's good to hang on to one or two of your vices as long as the overall effect on your life isn't too negative. If the gambling is affecting your marriage or your financial security it might be a problem. You're the only one who can really make that judgement.
Hey trollech, I like your horns. I need a new set as sadly my wig met a bad end (16 pound tabby cat with uncanny ability to aim projectile vomit).
