Has anyone seen the Blu-Ray version yet? Mine came in the mail this week. I've never seen this film before and in spite of-or because of-the critical derision, I'm looking forward to watching it. I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to see it though. Any thoughts on the BD version? There sure are a ton of extras on it.

Just bought the Blu-Ray version the other day. Actually sat through the entire thing in one sitting. First time I've been able to do that. The 2 1/2 hour running time actually went by pretty quickly because you know there's always a showstopping scene around the corner. The picture still looks like shit because the movie looks like shit. Blu-Ray doesn't help in this case. The extras are much more interesting than the movie itself. Although I must say, as awful as the movie is, I still find it fascinating. I've seen much better movies than this one only once, but I've seen Caligula about 4 times now. Something brings me back to it every few years. I always take a shower afterwards, though.

What is your opinion of the "pre-release" version?

I haven't watched that one yet.

I also bought the Blu-Ray Caligula, looking to get the full 156 min version and some great extras, the picture quality is very poor....some of the extras, not in HI DEF actually are easier on the eye...
As a movie i love it, its got that great mix of WTF moments and sleeze...To think this was a worldwide mainstream release with respected actors is gold imo. As a Blu-Ray tho the image is disappointing although i do accept the source is important and there is no good source to work from.

*bump* Was thinking of upgrading but by all reports the upconverted standard def doesn't look much better than the blu-ray. I own the imperial edition anyway... do I need the blu?

It looks like shit, quite frankly. You're better off just sticking with the standard DVD. Thankfully I only paid $15 for my Blu or I'd be really, really pissed off.

OK, looks like I'll skip it then. :)
