PURE ROCK FURY by CLUTCH.

I have listened to Clutch for a mighty long time and have always enjoyed PURE ROCK FURY. it was not until my drive home last night did I realize how rukey that song is. I found myself punching the air, bouncing in my seat and screaming the lyrics to cars passing by.

So there you have it. Now...start the debate.

Never heard it.

I would say Metallica's cover of "Breadfan" is the most awesome of all.

Jeremy Wallace

Breadfan is ruke-worthy!!

But not the rukiest.

Matt A
01-24-2007, 12:30 PM
It would be awesome if someone could upload PURE ROCK FURY (wink, wink)

I can't. I am at work. Someone here should be able to. ahem...William...ahem..

Jeremy Wallace

Here are the lyrics: (It is the best I can do from work)
WALK WHEREVER THE WEATHER PROVIDES
BECAUSE EVERYBODY NEEDS SOME TIME OUTSIDE
GIVE ME NO LIP AND I TELL YOU NO LIE.

HANDS DOWN THE ILLEST VENTRILOQUIST THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
THAT'S RIGHT OPERATOR SMOOTHER THAN FADERS ON AN AUTOMATED SOUND BOARD
ANDRETTI'S NEVER RACED ME BUT IF HE WANTS TO OH I'M READY COORDINATION OF THE EYE AND HAND IS NOT MY STRONG POINT BUT I MAKE DUE WITH WHAT I HAVE.

PURE ROCK FURY THE SOLUTION IS SO CLEAR
CALLING ALL HUMANS AND ABLE VOLUNTEERS.

I WALK WHEREVER THE WEATHER PROVIDES BECAUSE EVERYBODY NEEDS SOME TIME OUTSIDE
I'VE SEEN THEM BOXES WITH PELICULAS ONE TIME STANDS OUT IN PARTICULAR
I SAW YOU DANCE IN THE ARENA ALL IN MAKEUP DRESSED UP LIKE A BALLERINA
I GOT TO WONDER WHAT'S GOT INTO YOU OR JUST WHAT YOU GOT INTO.

PURE ROCK FURY THE SOLUTION IS SO CLEAR
CALLING ALL HUMANS AND ABLE VOLUNTEERS.

HOTTER THAN ABBA IN NEVADA SUN IN A REAL SMALL CAR WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED UP
NO SUPER TROOPER BECAUSE YOU POOPED YOUR PANTS AND YOU'RE SCREAMING OH PLEASE JUST GIVE ME ONE MORE CHANCE
NOT ONE TO SHRINK FROM HELPING HUMANKIND BROTHER ONE OTHER THING THAT YOU MIGHT KEEP IN MIND
COORDINATION OF THE EYE AND HAND IS NOT MY STRONG POINT BUT I MAKE DUE WITH WHAT I HAVE.

PURE ROCK FURY THE SOLUTION IS SO CLEAR
CALLING ALL HUMANS AND ABLE VOLUNTEERS.

Nice song. However, 'Escape from the Prison Planet' by the aforementioned Clutch is, in my opinion, even rukier.

I'm with Buzzedherface on this one. That song makes me wanna run around with a cape on and punch complete strangers in the face.

Matt A

Moreso than "Breadfan"? 'Cause that song makes me want to round house Gene Simmons in the chops and then run up the steps of the Capital and jump up and down like Rocky.

I need to hear this song.

Jeremy Wallace

Allison, go to my myspace page. I have a live version of it. It is the video on my page.

Moreso than "Breadfan"?

Yes. And that's not to take anything away from Breadfan cause I agree, that song has some serious rukage to it. But Clutch takes it.

like "Nausea" by X

Tim Mayer

Nope.
Has to be "I Stand Tall" by The Dictators.

Has to be "I Stand Tall" by The Dictators.

A much better choice here.

Clutch are just not that good. They have their moments of rockyness, but they're much better when they're groovin'. Like Eight Times Over Miss October or Jam Room. Blast Tyrant as a whole is pretty swell though, in comparson to their other stuff.

I'm surprised that you didn't select "For Goodness Sakes, Look At Those Cakes" as your James Brown-oriented track. In fact, I imagine that song is the Matthew Allison International Anthem.

No disrespect to QOTSA but this is just crazy talk.

You're right about the importance of "For Goodness Sakes..." It was a wake-up call for me and helped me coin the term "panty cakes", but "The Grunt" trumps it for shear intensity. "The Grunt" will crush y'ur face.

Oh SNAP!

Since thrash metal is one of the coolest and rockin' fucking genres ever, I can think of about a million classic thrash songs that deserve the title of most rukiest song ever recorded. Here's one of the more rare ones... you might remember the band as the one that makes a brief appearance in David Lynch's WILD AT HEART. Gotta love the main guitar riff!

Here's how I'll break this down -

Original - 99.985% Awesome radness

QOTSA cover - 101% Awesome radness due to Nick's scream at the end, which segues perfectly into Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" on mix tapes. Try it and you'll agree.

Off of Alpha Motherfuckers? Why yes, I have. I've got the CD and it's a very good cover. But it doesn't destroy the original at all. On this, you are very, very wrong.

I discussed the subject of "ruking in music" with Mr. Jane and Mr. Tolch. After a while, they confessed this is what they really believe to be the rukiest of all songs -

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5In4747n9YU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5In4747n9YU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Pay close attention to the drummer's face when they freeze the frame to show his expression - what you are seeing is a ruke-gasm.

When you ruke so hard, it's bound to take a physical and psychological toll on you. Just ask Chad - he suffers from PRAD (Post Ruke Affective Disorder).

Brother Miller, what are your feelings on the ruke-i-tude of Loverboy? Any comments on the drummer's "ruke face"?

A side note: the Loverboy drummer's name is Matthew, which is also Mr. Allison's first name. Coincidence or not?

Ian Miller
02-02-2007, 09:35 PM
Brother Don, I need not watch the Loverboy clips in order to comment on the drummer's RUKINESS, he is rivalled only by Pat Benetar's drummer of the same era for out-and-out hamminess.

The first and only time I saw the video for LOVIN' EVERY MINUTE OF IT I was fried on acid and couldn't believe how chunky Mike Reno had gotten. I also find it hilarious that the only company Paul Dean could get to make a signature guitar for him was Hondo! I saw one about ten years ago for cheap, I wish I had it.
