It's what's for dinner.

Uh, I don't know yet.

Scott Ruhl
01-12-2007, 04:46 PM
How grand, I was just gonna make a thread about dinner, or "supper" as Jesus called it.

I also don't know what's having me yet but they didn't eat me yesterday either. And that Taco Bill from the lunch thread is wearing off.

Scott Ruhl
01-12-2007, 04:48 PM
I know I'm gonna have at least a beer with it but also probably without it.
What time is dinner starting for everyone? Even if I don't eat dinner I'll prolly do it around 7:00pm.

Alyss N.

You know, the lunch thread made total sense but a dinner thread is just stupid and unnecessary.

Scott Ruhl

I'd say a Brunch thread might be a little pushing it but I am close to the edge.

Mike Brown
01-12-2007, 05:05 PM
Beers before, then dinner around 6:30 I imagine. That brunch sounds awful good though, I might just wait.

I wish I celebrated Donut Day. It's gotten way to commercial though.

You could always celebrate it on the inside. They can't take that away from you.

Oh man, I'm so jealous right now. How'd it turn out?

It turned out really well, I put a little seasoning on the roast before I put it in the crockpot so it was nice and juicy when it was done. I mixed it with some bbq sauce I made using cream soda and habaneros, it had a nice spicy sweetness and they seemed to mix like peanut butter and chocolate.

For lunch I had a can of Heineken and a bag of Lays BBQ chips.

For dinner I'm making chicken parm with pan tossed broccili and garlic with big yummy baked potatoes. It's gonna ruke. I'll probably have another Heineken to go with that, though a bottle of red wine would compliment it nicely.

Sounds lovely. I think I'm having leftover pasta...well, if I wake up from my nap. I'm one tired dude (I think the term is hungover). I'll scarf that and then get ready for Wednesday Night Lights!!! (That's what we call our D&D sessions)

No cooking tonight.

Ham & cheddar on good bread that doesn't smell like a swiffer rag, with avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, dried figs, corn chips, lazy salsa out of a jar. Maybe some hot sauce, a little chipotle maybe, or maybe just some mustard with attitude and history.

Guiness. Or a tall glass of cold milk; haven't decided yet.

Dublin Coddle

I was off today so I hit up my favorite store, Central Market, and picked up some potatoes and onions and some freshly linked sausages and fresh cut bacon outta the meat market. I just finished making my stock and put it on to simmer for an hour.

Leftover lasagna; it gets better for sitting, which is a life lesson I'm trying to learn from.

My mother-in-law pronounces it, well, wrong, and I can't even describe it, it's just wrong -- she makes it rhyme with wrangy, but it's so much worse than that. The "s" is wrong, too, and maybe the "l". She's English.

Here's how it should sound -- plus, bonus gnocchi:

http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/modlang/carasi/site/pronuncia/gnocchi.mp3

No gnocchi for me tonight, gnuk, gnuk.

Funnily enough I'm going for the hippy speedball again, I'll probably warsh it down some chicken noodle soup.

I had to make the ham salad at the deli tonight so I made a sub for myself. It's basically just an Italian but with mayo, lettuce, and pickles. I have a nice diet Pepsi and a bag of sour cream and cheddar Ruffles.

Barry M.
02-26-2008, 08:15 PM
Spaghetti sauce, but with chicken instead of actual meat. Is ground chicken like ground hog or groundnuts? Why does ground mean "not"? Having whole wheat spaghetti, too, so I guess it's ground all round. Sadly, no ground round.

Scott Ruhl
02-26-2008, 08:40 PM
That sounds good Barry. I'm having chili tonight.
Lately all I've been eating is fruit and salads, stopped drinking soda. When you stop drinking soda and have a juice it's like eating a piece of the sun. I had an OJ yesterday and my body almost threw a cosmic fit.

David Huber

Crock-pot chili, salad w/balsamic vinegar dressing, olive bread, Godiva key lime truffle, iced tea.

Ehren H.
02-26-2008, 10:15 PM
For lunch today I rocked the vitamin water and jalapeno flavored chips. For dinner I ordered in some general tso's which made me nauseous. What the fuck is in that sauce? Remind me to stick to curry.

That hippy speedball sounds fun, usually I keep the weed for at night and the coffee for the morning, I don't think I've ever mixed the two.

The plan: open beer, hunt meat in freezer, sniff it, defrost it; hunt vegetable in fridge, sniff it, wash it; hunt rice in big plastic tub of rice; hunt spices, garlic, onions, peppers, mushrooms, nuts; slice meat, slice vegetable; cook everything. Drink beer.

Curse the fact that the barbecue's out of gas and I'm having to do the whole cave man thing indoors on a great cave man day like this. Open beer.

Hunter gathererer, eh?

I'll probably burn some steaks on the indoor grill (stove), and nuke a cheesey potato. It's really for her not for me. I'll probaby just smoke a joint and drink some pomegranate juice with crushed ice. Thank you refridgerator gods for my crushed and cubed ice!

Barry M.

I think I've got meatballs in the freezer. They're store-bought convenience balls, and the sauce won't be anything but a quick toss-together, but they'll have synchronicity on their side. And, cheese.

Paul Casey
06-24-2008, 05:44 PM
As much as I love homemade meatballs, I wicked fuckin' love the store-bought quickies. My brother had some at his party Sunday and it was mega-rad.

Barry M.
07-16-2008, 04:29 PM
It's hot, and it's going to keep being hot until the thunderstorm starts, and then it's going to be hot and steamy afterwards.

Something's going to get grilled tonight, and it ain't dogs. (We did that yesterday). I'm thinking something that can be sliced or chopped up afterwards and stuffed in buns with lettuce, tomato, maybe pickled things, some hot sauce. Nutritious blue corn chips on the side. Maybe store-boughten salsa, too.

I'm not a pork-pullin' man, I have to say. I'm thinking slabs of Chicken Little meat, freshly samurai'd off the tumor, but maybe there's some better option?

Paul Casey
07-16-2008, 04:47 PM

Still have a small mountain of leftovers from weekend grilling. Just cut up a steak and had myself a nice sammich with a side of potato salad. I was fucking starvin' Marvin, I didn't eat lunch because I was too busy trading in dvds for credit.

Nachos are topped with Kraft dinner cheesey topping powder mixed with long chain polymers. Pitchers of beer sit pre-poured, and not quite headless, as Mary Queen of Scots said. I'm told chicken wings or burger were the way to go. I chose the other path, and that made all the difference.

Had to go for dinner somewhere fast last night, before a thing, and we went to a Japanese place. I ordered the ramen, and blow me down, it was instant ramen noodles (but in a bowl, not a plastic cup). Kinky little skinnyass noodles, no pork. It was pretty good, but so's Kraft Dinner -- I just didn't expect to get it in a restaurant.

I like shoyu ramen, with chashu pork and uzumaki fishcake slices. Ungood ramen's not bad, it just makes you want more, maybe better ramen: like sex.

Nope, just out with the filmmakers that are doing Jack Ketchum's OFFSPRING. They were in town, so we went out.

Still, two peach salad's such a great start for a date dinner, you might never make it to the main course.

Neckbones, eh? Interesting.

On a side note, we fought a dragon at D&D Wednesday night. I told my buddy that the dragon was gonna land on his head. He said, "That's ok. Lanny has extra neckbones."
His elf's name is Lanny Poffo.

It's a soul food thing. All dark meat and a lot of fatty gristle, lots of flavor.

For tonight I'm having Beef in Pomegranate Sauce!!!

1 pound or so organic beef, fat trimmed (we cut a hefty New York Strip into four serving sized pieces)
Sea salt
Light olive oil, as needed
1 onion, sliced
4-5 cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice
1 14-0z can fire roasted crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar- omit for yeast-free
1/8 cup pure maple syrup- or use agave to keep it lower glycemic
1/2 cup golden raisins- or cranberries
1 teaspoon dried French herb mix or Bouquet Garni
A small pinch of cinnamon

All in the crock potI can say I really can't wait...

Oxtail soup. Should be stew, but I feel the need for barley. My wife promises biscuits.

I ended up with a ribeye tonight that was just plain old plain.
An expensive plain old plain ribeye makes for the worst ribeye.
Wish I would have cooked it myself. Eating out ain't what it's all cracked up to be.

Oxtail soup takes frigging forever: we'll have it tonight, I'm sure it'll be better for a day to sit and brood.

We ordered faint-hope hail-mary last-ditch dark-night-of-the-soul desperation despair pizza from a chain so bad they named it twice. They screwed up the order, so when I went to pick it up, it was not there. The nice man made one for free, which was great of him. But now I feel like, even after swearing "never again", I have to order again to make up for the freebie.

The pizza was okay.

Interesting. Do you dip or do you spread it on the bread? I've never had pig liver. Chicken and calf, yes, but not pig. What kind of spices (if any) are in it?

Not sure, but it makes a fine breakfast.

I'm stuck with frozen chicken strips and tater tots tonight. Payday soon thank goodness.
