Who do you prefer of these two African American bands? Both horn-based and covering everything from pop, rock, R&B, jazz, funk, they've both done it all. Pick your fave.

I'll go with the Jersey boys. Kool & the Gang get my vote, but I'm cutting them off sometime in the 70s.

Early Kool & The Gang for sure. I agree with William. I can't take the later stuff.

Early Kool is cool swingin' for sure, but we can't deny the fact, that "Cherish" remains one of the 80s' best pop songs.

I'm fuckin' up the program, I know, but I'm going with EW&F. 'Round about these parts, there's nothing better than EW&F on a Sunday morning.

Who vs. who?

The guys who did the song that played when Spalding pukes through the sunroof in CADDYSHACK vs. the guys who sung about boogie'n in the jungle at the beginning of PULP FICTION.

In that case, I abstain. :p

Definitely Kool based on the strength of that hits album which I have with a lesser cover, for some reason. I like 'em both though. And the Commodores around the time of 'Machine Gun'!

Kool & The Gang is great, but fuckin' Earth, Wind, & Fire always rules me.
Plus, didn't they do the soundtrack to Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song?

Looks like Kool took the Kup.

Yeah, my faves too actually, Kool. EW&F did a great guest spot on The Tubes' album "Outside Inside" (1983), a funky rock tune called "Tip of my Tongue", or maybe it was just Maurice White, I forget.

Kool & The Gang

Not a fan of Earth, Wind & Fire at all. Philip Bailey bugs the hell out of me.

I've got some of the earlier stuff from both groups and I prefer it too their later stuff. I went for Kool though. Sly and The Family Stone were far better though than both quality wise
