Another easy one. Tears For Fears by about 2000 miles.

I agree. I could never get into Duran Duran's "sissified" sound and Le Bon's voice just grates on my nerves. That being said, I think "Ordinary World" is a fuckin' great song.

Tears For Fears were just such talented musicians and really excellent songwriters. I firmly believe that "Songs From The Big Chair" is one of the best albums ever released in any genre. Tears For Fears gets my vote easily.

IMO, Tears For Fears sound like any other 80s pop group whereas Duran Duran have an instantly recognizable sound. If I'm flipping through the stations and run across "Rio", I turn the radio up and sing along but that's just me....and most likely Tolchie and Denise ;)

Tears for Fears have yet to release a bad album. The newest one, "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" has some great stuff on it. Roland Orzabal has one of the strongest voices in Rock. What a freakin' range.

Simon Le Bon has one on the whiniest voices in Ninnie-Rock. ;)

I agree. Very distinctive also. You hear it and you know what you are listening to.

I sgould clarify that my "sissified" comment does not pertain to DD's music. I know their songs have risque lyrics and it's the red-blooded male wanting the female thing, it's just the sound that's kind of "sissyish" to me and I use that 'cause I don't know how else to phrase it. I'm sure it has a lot to do with my dislike for Le Bon's voice.

Tears for Fears, IMO, had one or two good songs. I would probably not be so down on them, were it not for Sowing The Seeds of Love, which i thought was, to borrow one of Bill's words :) one of the most sissified (and neverending) tunes i've ever heard, next to Limahl's The Neverending Story.

Duran Duran's more recent output doesn't do much for me, a lot of it is nostalgia, but I'm go hands down with D2.

Aside from stuff like Girls on Film and the "Bop Bop Bop" chorus of Planet Earth, the first album is an exercise in great, brooding tunes.

Speaking of excellent musicians, you don't get much more underrated than John Taylor.

C'mon man! Write your own material! :)

I agree on Taylor by the way. Probably the one saving grace in the band IMHO.

i think there needs to be more obscure battles... like:

LANDSCAPE vs. SNOWY RED

etc. :D

How could Tears for Fears (worst. band name. EVER) even get 2 votes?

Watch some Duran Duran videos. You may say "sissy" but they were sissies who got much poon tang. Super Model poon tang!

I like this song actually. The video is trippy.

It doesn't go on forever, it's only 6:19 long. That's a hiccup in Dead-land :)

Duran Duran. If for nothing else, for John Taylor's bass lines. Extremely underrated player.

What? That DD is running away with it?

Not at all. I figured the Maniacs would give it to the DD boys in convincing fashion. I basically wanted to see who would be voting with me for TFF :)

Well Bill, I am most definitely 110% with you. :) I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

"Girls on Film" baby!
Yes! I had a copy of the uncensored video when I was a kid. The image of the ice cube being rubbed on the nipple is permanently burned into my mind.

Duran Duran for me!

I qualify Tears as a guilty pleasure with some solid songs. Duran Duran had solid albums with a few guilty pleasures. Therefore, Up the Le Bon!

I've seen you on the beach and Iiiiiiiii've seen you on TV
Two of a billion staaaaaars.... it means so much to me
Like a birthday... or a pretty view
But then I'm sure that you know it's just for you......
