View Full Version : Eaten Alive - Subversive

A new release of Hooper's EATEN ALIVE is apparently coming out from Subversive Cinema, according to fangoria.com:
It seems a weird choice for a re-issue since the Elite disc is still pretty easy to find. Maybe it will be a better transfer, but I doubt it will make a big splash in sales considering it has somewhat limited appeal outside of the diehard fanbase who most probably already owns the Elite disc. And it will have to be really loaded to make any upgrade worth it.
Anybody excited about this release? Anyone? Anyone?

I would get another copy of this if the troubled history of the film was talked about. It would be cool to hear stories of a coked-up Tobe Hooper thrown off the set, Marilyn Burns again being nearly driven insane, the antics of stars Carolyn Jones and Neville Brand. There must be ton of cool tales to hear.

I don´t own the Elite´s disc, but I believe it´s the bare bones non-anamorphic disc, and quite old now.
So re-release is very good idea IMO. :)
"Subversive Cinema gave Fango the scoop that it’s working on a new special-edition disc of Tobe Hooper’s EATEN ALIVE for 2006, with a fresh anamorphic transfer and special features. Look for a further update on Subversive’s slate soon."
Sounds good, a must buy for me.

Hmmm... I'll have to think about this one. I like almost all of Tobe Hooper's other movies (well, except Spontaneous Combustion and Crocodile) but this one was so boring I never finished it. Sold the DVD on eBay for a profit. Mayhap I should revisit it when the new edition is released? Dunno...

Lifeforce must be Tobe Hooper's crowning achievement. The things he did before (and I include TCM) and after just don't hold up the same way that Lifeforce does.

I really enjoy the hell out of Lifeforce (don't believe me? check out the review in the archive, bitches!) but I'd rate a couple of his other films ahead of it. I really, really love Salem's Lot, for example. Eaten Alive is a fine little film, and I'd gladly upgrade if it were given some juicy extras and a better transfer.

I recently got the LIFEFORCE dvd and it turned out to be one the most exciting sci-fi/horrors I've seen since ALIENS.The music score is great and the cast hams it up wonderfully. The whole thing is so far out there,I just couldn't believe my eyes.Proof that Tobe Hooper can direct if he wants to. Another 80's rediscovery for me...
I liked EATEN ALIVE too, Elite's disc isn't that bad (compared to prev.vhs tapes)

I especially enjoy Frank Finlay's subtly tongue in cheek performance as Professor Falada in Lifeforce; he's always a reliable performer.
I'd love to have Mancini's score (which the acclaimed composer regarded as a personal favorite, btw) on CD. The main theme is insanely catchy.

Troy, the CD was out, as was the LP, I do have it, and I cannot part with it, the end credit theme is great, and I get a blast listening to it in my car!
