View Full Version : original Alien dvd reissue?

I noticed the original Alien dvd appears to be reissued. I saw it at Best Buy a few weeks ago,and it is listed as being released on Tues-Jan. 25(yesterday).
The main difference from the original packaging I can tell is. The back says 'widescreen edition' in the upper left hand corner. The listing of features is also on the left side.
That is where I have a question. The listing of features only lists a few things(Commentary, deleted scenes) and does not state 'and more'.
So I am wondering if this is a complete reissue of the original release or did they take off a few extras(trailer, isolated score tracks)?
I would love to pick it up if it is the complete original release. So any information on this is much appreciated.

I believe the "Isolated score", "Original audio commentary", and "Alternative Sound Track" are dropped at least. I think the re-issue is taken from the Quadrilogy set.
I´m keeping the original release, since the Isolated score is always great to have (and many times dropped from the re-releases).

Well I suspect it may be a more bare bones version of the original release.
While almost everything from the release is listed(trailers were missing, along with the 2.0 DD mix). It seems Fox has been issueing plenty of single disc/practically bare releases(like M.G.M.). It does have the exact same SKU# as the 20th release though, but it lacks that mention on the cover.
I doubt this is the first disc of the Quadrilogy 2 disc set. Since the 'alternate' version of the film was not listed, and neither was the new & second commentary by cast/crew.
Thankfully B.B actually got some copies of the real 20th Anniversary release. So I picked that up just to be on the safe side(don't want to risk money on possibly cut down dvd versions).
Oh yeah, the 1 disc release of Die Hard. While using the original dvd/theatrical artwork is really disc 1 from the SE. It lists the commentary,16.9(original was nonanamorphic if I recall) and the 'extended branching option'.
So doing alot of close scrunity,I was able to make the right decision:)
...and one day I will own the Quadrilogy, but just have'nt been able to afford it yet. One thing is for certain, the tranmission effects are more disturbing/unsettling than the remix on the 'alternate' version of the film!
I saw that version in theaters, and was abit let down by the sound effects for that scene. It was hardly creepy at all. So I checked out the deleted scene on the 20th Ann edition..and it gave me chills!

"Quadrilogy" is a "must have" set, but based on the thread from the HTF, the new re-release would include the isolated score, etc.
Fans might want to pick it up (guy in the other thread says: "This disc has tons of material not found in the current release", but "Tons" here would be the older Audio commentary, Isolated score, and alternate (Music And Production) Sound Track).
