View Full Version : Kolchak: The Night Stalker - Missing scene?

I just got the MGM double feature DVD of The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler. It seems there's a scene missing in The Night Stalker where Kolchak goes into the house where the vampire is staying. I'm sure I remember Kolchak walking into a room and seeing two shoes sticking out from under some curtains. This was one of the best scenes in the movie and it's not on this DVD! The length of this feature is only 74 min. while Night Strangler runs 90 mins. I'm assuming both movies had to fill the same 2 hour time slot, so the bastards must have cut about 15 minutes!
Anybody else notice this or am I getting it confused with a similar episode?

I don't know about that scene for sure, but do know that the run time of the STALKER was 74min. STRANGLER debuted at 74 min also, both premiered on the ABC Movie of the Week which was a 90 min program. When STRANGLER was syndicated, it was expanded to 90 min with outtakes and ran in 2 hr slots.
As for the feet under the curtain, that sounds really familiar but I am not sure what movie / where it's from.

while i dont know know about the shoes under the curtains scene, that could have been in a thousand other movies or other Kolchak shows and you are confusing it, it definitely isnt missing 15 mins of footage.

The thing is, I'm sure it was a Night Stalker, and I'm sure a male vampire was involved. I don't remember a male vampire in any of the series episodes, but I could be wrong. I don't think so though.

Mike , the scene you recall is actually from the first episode ( THE RIPPER ) of the tv series .

He's right, it's from The Ripper. The set up(Kolchak in a house with the badguy coming back home) is much the same.

I love that episode. And I love the part where Kolchak is so overwhelmed by fear that he runs out from behind the curtains which initiates the third act chase that ends up with the Ripper meeting his end.

Great guys! Thanks for clearing that up! It's been years since I've seen some of the episodes. Hopefully they'll be released again soon. I can't wait to see "Zombie" again as well!
