Man did I love this film.... The best Godzilla film since DESTROY ALL MONSTERS and way better than the very overrated GMK... There was so much that was great Godzilla comming ashore reminded me of my favorite shot in KING KONG VS GODZILLA. This is the best MOTHRA film since GODZILLA VS THE THING. They really got the moth right this time. It is a shame that they are going to stop the films. I would really like to see this director do a Ghidorah film, with Rodan. Great film 4 1/2 stars out of 5. TOKYO SOS is number six on my Godzilla list.
1. GODZILLA VS THE THING
2. KING KONG VS GODZILLA
3.GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER
7.DESTROY ALL MONSTERS
8.GODZILLA X MECHGODZILLA (2003)
9.GODZILLA VS THE SEA MONSTER

Very tough ranking them, but here are mine.
1. GHIDRAH THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER
2. DESTROY ALL MONSTERS
3. MONSTER ZERO
4. GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH
5. GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH
6. GODZILLA VS. DESTROYAH
8. GODZILLA VS. BIOLANTE
9. GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA (1993)
10. GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA (1964)
I can't abide KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, although the Japanese version is at least better than the US. I have a feeling that I will love FINAL WARS.

I really liked the way Godzilla looked in this film. Really cool.

Wow. Really disagree, Richard. I didn't like the way G looked: his face looked plastic-y and phony, and they lighted his eyes (in at least some shots), which made him look even more fakey looking.
Plus, what they hell was (the criminally overused) Mothra doing in this movie? She shows up, then gets blasted. The larvae hang around and shoot some webbing, then go home. They made virtually no difference to the movie. This is just a rematch of G and MechaG, and not as good as the first. Megaguiris was my least favorite of the Millenium series, but at least it's got a new kaiju in it. SOS is now my least favorite.
I'll have to give this another look-see on my new 36" Sony HD set, but I was not impressed when I watched it the day after it's release day.
There seems to be two camps -- those who liked SOS and those who liked GMK, and never-the-twain-shall-meet. True to form, I love GMK.

I really dug GMK and thought SOS was OK. I did not care for the look of big G in SOS for the same reasons Jim mentioned.

i thought both GxMG and SOS were equally bad. I hope final wars will be much better, though i don't see it topping GMK.

GMK is my least favorite GOdzilla film of all time. Almost everything about it was horrible. TOYKO SOS rocked. Mothra might be overused, in TOYKO SOS she was practally perfect, they finally got her right. The best Mothra movie since GODZILLA VS THE THING.
I hated the way GODZILLA looked in GMK! He reminded me of that horrible Marvel comic.

I just watched Tokyo: SOS today and having no expectations it really wasn't bad. I have yet to see the last Mechagodzilla. And the two before that (including GMK) I've only seen the butchered us tv prints so I can't really give an informed opinion on them yet as far as a comparison. But this was fun although a bit preachy.

I watched Tokyo SOS tonight. I felt that it was decent although didn't come close to GMK (probably my favorite of the series...[that i've seen])!
Appropriately...I also thought that the Gamera Trilogy were the best kaiju movies that ever came out of Japan.
Tokyo SOS was a tad cheesy at points. I agree that Mothra was kind of a waste and didn't serve much of a purpose. The ending as usual made up for it. (whenever a Godzilla movie isn't grabbing my attention...i can always depend on the ending for some reason to wake me up) The battle scenes didn't really deliver for me. There were 2 or 3 big moves and then 10 minutes for whoever to recover and stand up (rinse and repeat). Not enough contact.
I gave it 3 stars out of 5. I like the look of Godzilla. His nuclear blast thingy looks cooler and more fierce than ever! The storyline is getting stale...as has been mentioned countless times.
