View Full Version : Godsend (2004) - Talk about average!!!

Just saw this thriller tonight - I dont know, what to think about it. It was a boring, and average movie to say the least - technically, there was nothing wrong with it. Cinematography, sound design and editing were good, and some of the tense moments was effective. The acting were also pretty good - Greg Kinnear and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos did good jobs with their characters. De Niro felt a little awkward and out of place, but nothing serious. It just felt like the movie really didnt want to go anywhere for the longest periods of time, and - as my friend said - it was extremely frustrating to watch a movie, and every time you think it will go somewhere, it doesnt.
I guess the right term is "average"....
Anybody saw this?

I kept waiting for something good to happen... Never really did. Some scenes were effective but largley poorly executed. It was just flatline. And I agree De Niro was out of place.

The actor doesn't make the movie, but I don't hold my breath for high quality De Niro flicks any more.
I don't know what it is with him, but I can't remember the last time he made a really good flick. He's had a few that weren't too awful, but certainly nothing rememberable ala his former glory.

I had this DVD listed on eBay before the movie was even over. Terrible!

Utterly mediocre film. Quite un scary aswell, and even a tad obvious. Blah.
De Niro hasnt done anything good in like.. 7-8 years now.

The last really good film I can remember seeing DeNiro in was Casino - he needs to get back with Scorsese at some point, I think. I also enjoyed City by the Sea (2002), but it was nothing extraordinary. However, I will cast a vote for Meet the Parents and I do plan on seeing Meet the Fockers, as well.

I like DeNiro but with GODSEND I guess I'm letting the overwhelming negative opinions keep me away from it. I mean, NOBODY seems to like this film.
I like DeNiro's character in MEET THE PARENTS. I like that film more and more each time I see it. As for MEET THE FOCKERS -- I didn't think it was as good as the original, though Streisand and Hoffman were well-cast.

Robert DeNero's last great film...clearly: Jackie Brown.
