LA CRÈME OF NEW CONTEMPORARY FRENCH CINEMA ON DVD

It’s generally accepted that no cinema-going nation appreciates film quite like the French do. Similarly, it can be said that French filmmakers consistently produce movies with a certain flair and finesse that’s rarely found elsewhere. This June, Momentum Pictures release two new contemporary French movies on DVD that perfectly illustrate this fact:  CHRYSALIS, a slick, neo-noir, sci-fi action thriller, and PARIS LOCKDOWN, a shockingly violent gangster thriller set in the criminal underworld of the French capital.

Written and directed by Julien Leclercq, and starring Albert Dupontel (Intimate Enemies; A Very Long Engagement; Irreversible), Marthe Keller (Black Sunday; Marathon Man), Marie Guillard (The Visitors 2; The Fifth Element) and Patrick Bauchau (Panic Room; Clear And Present Danger), CHRYSALIS spins a futuristic tale of mind control and memory replacement therapies that recalls the works of acclaimed sci-fi author Phillip K. Dick.

CHRYSALIS (cert. tbc) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Momentum Pictures on 9th June 2008. Produced by Eric Névé (Dobermann) and directed by Frederic Schoendoerffer (director of the Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassell thriller, Spy Bound), PARIS LOCKDOWN stars Benoit Magimel (Intimate Enemies; The Nest; The Piano Teacher), Beatrice Dalle (Clean; Betty Blue) and Olivier Marchal (Tell No One) in a blood-drenched story of an aging mob boss whose empire is at risk of collapsing around him. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, this is one of the most graphically violent, sexually explicit and all-round shocking movies to come out of France since Virginie Despentes’ Baise-moi and Gaspar Noé’s Irréversible.

PARIS LOCKDOWN (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Momentum Pictures on 23rd June 2008.
